Performs work in the collection, analysis, evaluation, interpretatioin, and dissemination of information on conditions, trends, and forces in foreign and domestic areas that directly or indirectly affect the national security. Performs as an experienced all-source analyst, with responsibility for the project and activities within a specifically defined geographical or functional area of responsibility.

These positions requires the Intelligence Research Specialist, upon selection, to sign a mobility statement as a condition of employment. This means management reserves the right to assign or reassign employees assigned in this position or an associated career ladder position. Such an assignment or reassignment may include a permanent change station, as necessary, to accomplish the mission critical goals and objectives of ATF. The selectees must also attend a 4 week intelligence training course.

Note: Although the full promotion potential of these positions is GS-13, promotion to this level is not automatic nor guaranteed. In order to advance, employees must meet ATF's performance standards and demonstrate the potential to perform work at the GS-13 level to be promoted. The successful candidates will be provided with additional information regarding advancement once hired.

Occasional travel - Travel includes providing on-site analytical support during missions in the field or with other counterpart agencies during significant events. The duration of the travel may be approximately 30-days or more.

    GS-11: Must have one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level performing duties such as: Collecting, analyzing and disseminating intelligence information; using a variety of intelligence-gathering methods including link analyses, visual investigative analyses, crime mapping, and telephone toll record analyses to support investigative operations; extracting, compiling and analyzing factual information based on requests from special agents; presenting briefings on a variety of intelligence topics to other law enforcement and intelligence agencies and organizations; maintaining and modifying computerized intelligence databases to generate statistical and relational reports; drafting multiple, complex intelligence reports that contain original analyses, conclusions and recommendations. Producing finished intelligence reports based on a review of data from various sources; and, providing guidance and technical assistance to junior intelligence and investigative personnel with the organization. OR Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to degree, in a field of study related to this position such as social sciences, business and public administration, behavioral sciences, and sociology or other field of study that provides them with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position OR LL.M., if related OR Combination of education and experience listed above.
