LEAF COLLECTORS

Sixteen temporary leaf collector positions are available starting October 30, 2017 for approximately 8-10 weeks in the City of Fairfax Public Works Department, Operations Division. Perform leaf collection using large vacuum hoses; lifting collection hoses to shoulder height into a truck; raking leaves; digging leaves out of ditches using a pitch fork; and other duties such as flagging traffic, litter collection, refuse collection, grounds maintenance, and performing or assisting in repairs to equipment.  Performs all other duties as assigned.  Some overtime may be required.  Must be at least 18 years of age and in good physical condition.  Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds to shoulder height, to walk at a brisk pace for up to 8 hours, and to push a large vacuum hose for up to 8 hours.  Must be able to use a pitchfork and a leaf rake, and to assist the driver in the dumping of the truck.  Must be able to work in inclement weather, including rain and snow.  Must be able to follow oral instructions.  Will be required to wear safety equipment issued by the City, including safety vests, safety shoes, and ear protection.  The criminal history of all selected applicants will be checked and evaluated for compatibility with the City's requirements.  Hours are Monday – Friday 6:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.  Salary $12.57/hour, No Fringe Benefits  Open until filled.  Apply online at http://www.fairfaxva.gov/government/personnel/jobs
