Statistician Student Trainee

This position is located in the U.S. International Trade Commission, Office of Operations, Office of Analysis and Research Services, Statistical and Data Services Division. There is the possibility of extension through the school year, and/or for an additional year based on workload requirements and budget availability. This appointment does not confer permanent Federal status. However, you may be eligible for conversion to a term or permanent position in the competitive service after successful completion of academic requirements, provided you satisfy the program requirements, and work and funding is available. There is no implied expectation of conversion in this career opportunity.

GRADE LEVEL REQUIREMENTS:
Grade 5 applicants must meet one of the following requirements: completion of 4 academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree with specific course work listed above, or 3 years of general office experience, of which one year is equivalent to the GS-4 level. Work experience must show: analysis of problems to identify significant factors, gathering pertinent data and recognizing solutions, planning and organizing work, attention to detail, providing customer service and administrative management functions related to office operations, and communicating effectively orally and in writing.
Grade 7 applicants must meet one of the following requirements: completion of a bachelor's degree, in the fields listed above, with superior academic achievement (upper one-third of your graduating class, GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 overall, or during your last two years of college work) OR completion of 1 full academic year of graduate level education OR 1 year of work experience equivalent to the GS-5 level. Work experience must show: problem solving skills and abilities utilizing mathematical and statistical software; gathering data required for reporting purposes and independently preparing spreadsheets, memorandum and reports using specific guidelines, problem-solving skills; providing customer service and administrative management functions relating to office operations, and communicating orally and in writing OR a combination of experience and education.
1. You must be currently enrolled and in a continuing degree program during the course of the internship, or accepted for enrollment, in a qualifying educational institution on a full-time basis, as defined by your program. Your course of study should be in the field of statistics, or directly related field, as stated in the education section of this announcement.
2. You must be in good academic standing throughout your college attendance, and have a minimum of a 2.5 GPA overall. In your field of study, you must also have at least a 2.5 in all course work.
Positive education requirement: A formal course of study leading to a BA or equivalent degree, in statistics, mathematics or other major that included 15 semester hours in statistics, with the following requirements: 1) the 15 semester hours in statistics can be in a combination of mathematics and statistics provided at least 6 hours were in statistics; 2) you must have 9 semester hours in one or more of the following subjects: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering, or in the social sciences, as listed in the Office of Personnel Management's Qualification standards.
You MUST submit a copy of your transcript if you want to substitute your education for experience. If you claim qualifications based on education, and do not submit a transcript, your education will not be used in making a qualification determination and you may be found "not qualified".
Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications. Therefore, provide only the attendance and/or degrees from schools accredited by accrediting institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
