Business Manager - University Services Shared Financial Services Center

The Business Manager provides a broad range of direct customer service, operational and financial support serving as the Business Manager for the following departments (customers): Mission & Ministry, IDEAA, and Risk Management; and serves as the backup Business Manager for the following departments: Human Resources, President's Office, Public Relations, Internal Audit, Chief Operating Officer, Chief Business Officer, Investment Office, General Counsel, and Financial Affairs. The Business Manager serves as direct support departments for transactional business operations will serve as a resource to their customers regarding their Department/Campus, as well as Financial Affairs policies and procedures. Reporting to the Senior Business Manager, the Business Manager has duties that include but are not limited to:

  • Administers all operational transactions for University Services functional units, for example, processing accounts payable, purchasing and payroll documents (for example, journal vouchers, purchase orders, reimbursements, deposits, and contracts); managing an organized filing system; preparing correspondence; scheduling; ProCard reconciliation; financials reconciliations.
  • Navigages through all business processes established for the GMS Financials module.
  • Actively engages with GAO, Procurement and Contracts, A/P, Audit and other university departments to ensure that transactions meet with GAAP, audit, compliance and other rules and protocols.
  • Operates as a backup Human Resource Contact, processing HR transactions for the departments served - for example, general payroll forms, costing allocations, new hire on-boarding, and terminations.
  • Administers all fiscal close activities for each operational unit - for example, accruals, journal transfers, and encumbrances.
  • Submits certain reports or documents as required by GAO, Audit,Compliance, and/or other university departments - for example, annual inventory and audit responses.
  • Provides friendly, efficient, solutions-oriented service to all customers and works as a team with all Business Managers within the unit.
  • Works with the Senior Business Officer to ensure that all financial documentation is accurate, organized, and processed timely and within University and auditing guidelines.
  • In this role the Business Manager will serve as a resource to their customers with respect to their Department/ Campus, and Financial Affairs policies and procedures. The Business Manager will attend all mandatory GMS training sessions and will be expected to perform at a high level within the Workday financial system.
  • Operates within the established standards of the university.


  • Bachelor's degree
  • 1 to 2 years of experience operating in a business office - preferably on a college campus
  • Detail orientation, strong interpersonal skills, and excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously with little supervision
  • Preference for customer service experience
  • Preference for business courses or accounting experience
