As a key member of the ACM Field Services team, the Membership Manager administers the museum membership program which is global in scope. Members are primarily Children’s Museums, but also include affiliate museums with an interest in serving family audiences, and individuals interested in starting a children’s museum. The position works collaboratively with all ACM staff to ensure delivery of member services that attract and retain members and advance the field. The position reports directly to the Director, Field Services.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Member Recruitment, Retention and Satisfaction

  • Prepares and sends renewal invoices and past due notices for members on a monthly basis using the Microsoft Dynamics CRM database.
  • Monitors monthly membership revenue and produces quarterly membership report.
  • Ensures annual member revenue goals are met.
  • Manage annual membership engagement plan.
  • Manages ACM Reciprocal Network program.
  • Provides technical assistance by phone/email to museum members and fulfills information requests/statistical queries.
  • Provides membership information to non-members by telephone and email.
  • Implements strategies to recruit and retain ACM members
  • Collects sample documents (e.g., policies, job descriptions) to grow the ACM Digital Resource Library.
  • Monitors and responds to on-line discussion groups, e.g., ACM Community on Groupsite, ACM Facebook, ACM Twitter, Childmus, LinkedIn, etc.
  • Updates membership materials so all information is current and accurate.
  • Works with Core Programs team to create new services/new content that may generate earned revenue. 

Member Data Collection and Dissemination

  • Manages implementation of annual membership data collection such as the Museum Member Survey and Workforce Survey.
  • Using membership data, develops custom benchmark reports for members via ACM’s Query Report service.
  • Manages implementation and disseminates reports of Quick Polls, brief membership surveys conducted via SurveyMonkey.
  • Tracks and analyzes children’s museum trends so that data collection, publications and conference content of the association reflect current interests and work of the field.

Member Communications Publications and Print/Electronic Materials

  • Coordinates production of E-Forum, monthly electronic newsletter, working with both ACM staff and ACM members to develop content.
  • Produces membership notices (e.g., Monthly Membership Emails, Survey invitations, etc.) using Constant Contact.
  • Tracks metrics on use of Web tools and member communications.
  • Processes and fulfills publications orders.
  • Maintains classified pages on ACM website and E-Forum.



InterActivity Conference

  • Processes participant registration as needed.   
  • Staffs Emerging Museums Pre-Conference.
  • Works as part of all-staff effort to pack and unpack conference materials and on-site tote bag stuffing.
  • Staffs ACM on-site registration desk and manages attendee check-in and on-site registration.
  • Trains staff and volunteers on registration desk procedures
  • Manages on-site sale of ACM publications
  • Works as part of all-staff effort to pack and unpack conference materials and on-site tote bag stuffing.

Technology and Web site

  • Maintains accurate member records in Microsoft Dynamics CRM database.
  • Updates member links in Find a Children’s and Products & Services Directories.
  • Generates content and updates pages on website, e.g., Join ACM landing pages and forms, Children’s Museum Data, ACM Reciprocal Network Policy Guide.


  • Special projects and new initiatives as they arise.


  • Three years experience in a similar organization.
  • Expertise in membership/database software.
  • Expertise in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and social media tools.
  • Knowledge of Web content management software, Joomla preferred.
  • Experience in surveying or data collection preferred.
  • Knowledge of SurveyMonkey, or other survey software preferred.
  • Self-motivated; flexible; team-oriented.
  • Outstanding communication skills (speaking, writing, editing).
  • Excellent time and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide outstanding customer service.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow up.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required. Degree(s) in museum management, museum studies, business administration, or nonprofit administration preferred.
  • Knowledge of how museums operate preferred.
  • Ability to work under pressure and time constraints as well as handle a number of tasks simultaneously is required.
  • Enthusiastic, positive personality with a true commitment to the work of ACM and children’s museums.
