Job Summary

Westat is seeking an individual to participate in nationally significant epidemiologic studies working with government scientists from NIH and other agencies in human health research. This individual will assist in managing the day-to-day activities of ongoing research involving collection, processing and analysis of biospecimens and associated data to assess interaction of environmental exposure and genetic influences on health outcomes.

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: conducting literature reviews in the areas of biospecimen collection and analytic methodologies; developing study protocols, including pre-tests of collection and methodologies, developing procedural manuals, QA/QC plans, and monitoring reports; developing requirements for specimen management systems; overseeing data and biospecimen collection; identifying and evaluating analysis laboratories and biospecimens repositories; and receiving and analyzing laboratory data.

Job Requirements

· A Ph.D. in epidemiology or a relevant discipline
· 5 years of relevant experience

Strong oral and written communication skills, administrative abilities, and the ability to liaise with investigators, funding agency representatives and the research team is essential.

Preferred qualifications: Experience with study design, research methods, and biospecimens collection and analysis for evaluating the relationship between environmental exposures and associated health outcomes is preferred. Co-authorship in scientific journals and experience in grant wiring are a plus.
