Regional Technical Specialist
The George Mason University, Technology Support Services (TSS), Desktop Regional Campuses--within Information Technology Services (ITS)--is seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented individual to fill a position as Regional Technical Specialist at our Science and Technology campus, located in Manassas, Va. Responsibilities: This position, along with other Regional Technical Specialists on-site, will be responsible for a multitude of different computing, server support, telecommunications--such as VOIP and networking services--for the faculty, staff and students primarily at the Science and Technology campus. This position works closely with ITS staff from other regional campuses including the main Fairfax campus. The individual should be comfortable working independently, as well as in a team environment, and must have the ability to independently manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Required Qualifications: * Associate degree in computing or an equivalent combination of education and work experience; * Strong working knowledge of the most commonly used software products (e.g., Mac OSX, Microsoft Operating Systems, Microsoft Office Suite, etc.), and the ability to instruct and provide guidance in the basic use of these products for customers when needed; * Experience with remote desktop support and imaging tools (e.g., Microsoft Desktop, Bomgar, SMS, SCCM, Ghost, etc.); * Demonstrated ability to analyze hardware and software problems, and interface with the manufacturerâ€™s technical support staff to effect a solution; * Experience installing computers, Mac and PC, and their components, including installing boards, cards, hard drives, peripheral components (e.g., printers, scanners, mobile devices, etc.), and a diverse number of software products; * Experience working in data wiring closets to provide voice and/or Ethernet network connectivity; * Demonstrated ability to partition hard drives; install software, video and printer drivers; and configure operating system profiles to optimize computer performance; * Strong customer service, communications and collaboration skills; and * Must be able to safely and independently, lift up to 10 pounds and climb a ladder up to 10 feet.
Preferred Qualifications: * Demonstrated work experience in desktop support; * Certifications such as A+, CCNA, ACMT, MCP; and/or training from applicable hardware and software manufacturers are highly desired; * Certifications for Mac OS X and Microsoft products are highly desired; * Knowledge of service request management systems such as EasyVista, and experience working with a help desk and help desk procedures; and * Working knowledge and understanding of Microsoft Active Directory (AD).
Salary is up to $50,000; commensurate with education and experience.
