Positions will be filled under the Department of Defense, Office of Inspector General Recent Graduates Program (Pathways Program). This program provides an entry-level developmental experience to individuals who have obtained, or will obtain within 9 months, a qualifying associates, bachelor's, master's, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution within the previous 2 years. Veterans whose military service obligations have prevented them from applying within this period have up to 6 years after degree or certificate completion to apply.
The program duration for the auditor position is two years. Upon successful completion of all requirements, you may be converted to a term or permanent career or career-conditional position at the agency's discretion.

Other Position Requirements
Position has been designated as Noncritical Sensitive. Incumbents are required to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
The incumbents of these positions are required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment and are subject to random drug testing for the duration of service with the DoD OIG.
If you have not previously successfully completed a probationary period with the federal government in a similar position, you will be required to serve a two-year probationary period.
The incumbent must adhere to the DoD Standards of Conduct.
Applicants must have completed all requirements for an associates, bachelor's, master's, professional, doctorate, vocational, or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution within the preceding 2 years or will graduate within the next 9 months;
Veterans unable to apply within two years of receiving their degree, due to military service obligation, have up to 6 years after degree completion to apply.
A. Degree: accounting; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law.
B. Combination of education and experience: At least 4 years of professional accounting experience or an equivalent combination of professional accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge AND 24 semester hours in accounting/auditing courses or a certificate as a Certified Public Accountant or Certified Internal Auditor.
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria for the GS-7 grade level:
A. 52 weeks of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-5 grade level in the Federal service utilizing basic knowledge of auditing and/or accounting principles and procedures; working as part of an auditing and/or accounting team; and accomplishing basic auditing and/or accounting data collection.
B. One year of graduate level education in accounting or in a related field such as business administration, finance or public administration. An academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. This determination is made based on normal course loads for a full year of study in the graduate program. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours or 27 quarter hours will satisfy the one year of full-time study requirement. C. A bachelor's degree in accounting or directly related major and meet Superior Academic Achievement (S.A.A.). S.A.A. is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average, or (3) honor society membership. (1) Class standing-Applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses. (2) Grade-point average (G.P.A.)-Applicants must have a grade-point average of: 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 as recorded on their official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum. Grade-point averages are to be rounded to one decimal place. For example, 2.95 will round to 3.0 and 2.94 will round to 2.9. G.P.A. as recorded on the final transcript. The final transcript must cover the period being used to determine G.P.A., i.e., all 4 years or last 2 years. (3) Election to membership in a national scholastic honor society-Applicant can be considered eligible based on membership in one of the national scholastic honor societies listed. D. A combination of experience as described in "A" above and education as described in "B" above. To combine education and experience, determine your total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level. Then determine your education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level. Finally, add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. (You MUST submit transcripts or proof of education to verify your claim.)
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria for the GS-9 grade level:
A. 52 weeks of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-7 grade level in the Federal service utilizing knowledge of auditing and/or accounting principles and procedures in the planning and execution of audits.
B. Having completed, or within 9 months of the closing date of this announcement will have completed, a Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D. that may be substituted to meet the specialized experience requirement. To be creditable, education must have been obtained from an accredited college or university. (You MUST submit transcripts or proof of education to verify your claim.)
C. A combination of experience as described in "A" above and education as described in "B" above. To combine education and experience, determine your total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level.
