Physical Education Teacher - Special Education
The mission of The Foundation Schools is to provide a highly specialized educational and therapeutic program to students with emotional disabilities. We are seeking candidates to teach Physical Education at our Gaithersburg, Maryland school.
Teachers at The Foundation Schools implement the Mastery Learning Model by structuring their classroom environment and activities, teaching style, lesson plans and curriculum to meet the individual psycho educational needs of students. Teachers manage student behavior through the implementation of the behavior modification system, school rules and The Foundation School policies. Teachers also supervise Program Assistants, as assigned, and serve as student advisers, active members of an interdisciplinary team and participants in group activities and committees.
Teachers must possess a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Education, Special Education, or a related field. Two years successful teaching experience working with with students with emotional disabilities preferred.
This position requires Maryland Professional Certification or Conditional Certification and will follow Maryland State Department of Education evaluation for Professional Certification in Physical Education Grades 1-12. Additional certification in Special Education Grades 1-8 preferred.Teachers must possess certification or meet requirements to submit a Request for MSDE Conditional Certification. Demonstrated knowledge of IDEA 2004 and its specific applications to educating students with emotional disturbance and other disabilities.
