General Dynamics Information Technology Division (GDIT) has an opportunity for 13 full-time and 1 part-time Software Engineer (various levels) to provide software engineering and application development services within the Office of Science and Technology (OST) in accordance with its mission. Software engineering and application development services may be required in a variety of technologies, primarily, but not limited to Java, JavaScript, Oracle PL/SQL, and Oracle Application Express (ApEx). Software Engineers / Application Developers will likely be focused in one technology area (e.g. Oracle Development or Java Development) and therefore it is acceptable for a Software Engineer / Application Developer to be experienced in at least one of the technology areas and it is not necessary for the Software Engineer / Application Developer to be experienced in all technology areas. Tasks may include but are not limited to the following:

    Serve as development lead or development team member on multiple, concurrent webbased, database-driven, custom application development projects.Perform system requirements analysis, application design, development, testing and implementationDevelop applications based on user requirements including user interface, database development, and middle-tier application components.Work on systems integration projects that may require knowledge of .xml file construction and parsing as well as other extraction, transformation and loading (ETL) processes and tools.Provide support and guidance to the development teams during the design, development, and testing processesWrite database triggers and PL/SQL stored procedures and packages according to business requirementsTroubleshoot application defects and performance issuesDesign, develop and/or generate reports based on business requirementsAssist in application performance monitoring, reporting, and tuningWork with complex relational databases and data modelsEnsure that application design is scalable and maintainableEnsure that all deliverables are thoroughly documented
  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work/military experience.
Qualifications Technical Skill Requirements:

    Must have thorough understanding of all aspects of the software development life cycle (SDLC).Must be able to elicit business requirements from business users, develop functional requirements based on the business requirements and produce detailed requirements documentation.Must have strong problem-solving and analytical skills.Must be creative and have the ability to understand and work with complex and abstract concepts.Must have experience working on client-facing projects and working with end users.Must have experience working on fast-paced projects with matrix teams.Demonstrated proficiency in Java, JavaScript, Oracle PL/SQL, or Oracle ApEx developmentExperience working with Oracle (12c Preferred)Experience in creating and maintaining articulate, structured technical documentation.

The following additional Technical Skill Requirements for are desired for all Software Engineers, but required for all level IV and V Software Engineers who are considered “senior” or “lead” engineers:

    Ability to lead development teams and mentor other developers/engineers.Experience in establishing and enforcing development standards and best practices.Experience in leading development projects through full SDLCMust have a thorough understanding of and experience working with relational databases.Must have experience in performing data analyses.Must have strong written and oral communication skills.Experience in leading database migration and system integration projects.
