Job Type: Full-Time Location: 2100 Clarendon Blvd., Arlington *METRO-accessible*, Virginia       Arlington County's Department of Community Planning, Housing and Development (CPHD) is seeking an Administration Services Supervisor to join our Zoning Division and provide centralized management of special projects and programs, including administrative, human resources, and financial activities. The employee will also provide day to day supervision to a team of administrative and professional planning staff, serve as a liaison to other county divisions and departments, and provide direct support to the Zoning Administrator.

The Zoning Division is responsible for providing a wide range of services related to the administration and interpretation of the regulations contained in Arlington County Zoning Ordinance.  The team's services include assisting division supervisors and staff with assessing program needs and developing solutions, managing the division's recruitment and classification activities, working with Communications staff to ensure the division's website content is updated and relevant, and overseeing payroll, budget, and procurement activities.  This section also coordinates the division's technology and records management efforts. 

Specific duties include:
  • Managing contract and procurement activities;
  • Overseeing recruitment and job classification efforts;
  • Assisting section managers in the development of website content and updating forms;
  • Preparing documents and analysis for monthly and annual financial reporting;
  • Identifying and providing training, technology, resources and mentoring to a team of four (4) administrative and planning professionals, including two (2) permanent and two (2) over strength positions; and
  • Representing the Zoning Division as part of interdepartmental teams and initiatives.

 Selection Criteria: Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Urban Planning, or related field, plus three years of progressively responsible experience in public service, urban planning, or administrative services to include leading and directing the work of a team.

Substitution: Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis. A Master's degree in Public Administration, Business, Urban Planning, or a closely related field may be substituted for one year of the experience requirement.

Desirable Qualifications
  • Knowledge of local government procedures and responsibilities as well as the field of specialization (e.g., zoning, land use);
  • Experience working collaboratively with others, preferably in a team setting to resolve issues, share information, and provide service to the public;
  • Analyzing and documenting business processes and policies; and
  • Master's Degree in Public Administration or related field.

 Additional Information: This is a 40-hour per week position with flexible work hours generally between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, with attendance at monthly evening meetings as needed.
