The Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) is located on the Johns Hopkins University Campus in Baltimore, MD, operated for NASA by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy. We help humanity explore the universe with advanced space telescopes and ever-growing data archives. Founded in 1982, the Institute has been the science operations center for the Hubble Space Telescope and are preparing for the science and mission center operations for the James Webb Space Telescope, scheduled to launch in October, 2018.

The Business Resources Center is seeking a Sponsor Programs Administrator to assist and support the STScI Contracts and Sponsored Programs Manager primarily in the following areas: preparation and processing of proposals and awards; maintaining complete and accurate status of proposals and awards; coordinating administrative aspects of awards with STScI staff and awarding agencies/sponsors; and preparing correspondence and reports. Duties include:

A. Prepares and processes grant proposals and budgets.

B. Establishes and maintains project files (proposal through award and close out).

C. Maintains grants database(s).

D. Processes and distributes proposals, awards/rejections, amendments/supplements.

E. Reviews expenditure requests (PRs, travel, etc.) to ensure availability of funds and allowability/allocability of request.

F. Prepares correspondence and reports.

G. Assists/supports the Contracts and Sponsored Programs Manager with special projects.

H. Identifies, recommends and implements actions as necessary to correct any outstanding grant overruns.


Position requires working knowledge of business practices and procedures.  Ability to analyze, interpret, and evaluate grants and contract policies, procedures, and reports.  Skilled in the use of a PC and word processing, spreadsheet and database software; preferably Word and Excel.  Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.  Ability to establish and maintain effective internal and external working relationships.

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or other curriculum preferred. Minimum two to three years experience in a grants management position in an organization awarding or receiving federal grants
