Administrative Specialist - Department of Modern and Classical Languages
The George Mason University Department of Modern and Classical Languages invites applications for an Administrative Specialist to oversee the main office operations. Responsibilities: * Work as a liaison with other campus offices and constituencies; * Report to the department chair and provide administrative support to the chair, the office manager, and the entire department; * Coordinate textbook orders; * Administer of placement exams; * Coordinate department-sponsored conferences and events; * Order supplies; * Assist with scheduling and staffing; * Manage all main office operations, including answering questions and providing information about university and departmental policies; and * Responsible for general clerical and administrative tasks.
Required Qualifications: * Organized individual with strong administrative experience and the ability to work effectively as a member of a team; * Skilled secretarial experience; * Effective interpersonal communication and customer relations skills, including diplomacy and the ability to work effectively with individuals from a wide range of personal and academic backgrounds; * Must have experience with the Microsoft Office suite of programs, as well as other databases and social media outlets; * Must possess knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures with the ability to hire, train and lead student staff; and * Must be able to work with a deadline and have the flexibility to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications: * Higher education experience; * Bachelorâ€™s degree or equivalent; and * Knowledge of Ellucian Banner and eVA (Commonwealth of Virginia procurement system).
