About the Agency

This position is located in the East Asia and Pacific Division, Korean Service at the Voice of America in Washington, DC. The incumbent is responsible for shooting, editing and producing news and/or feature programs/segments, and generate high quality graphics for Korean television programs and web and digital platforms.

The Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG), an independent federal agency, is an exciting, multi-cultural organization that encompasses all United States civilian international broadcasting. The BBG is comprised of five networks broadcasting in 61 languages that include the Voice of America, the Office of Cuba Broadcasting (Radio and TV Marti), and three grantee organizations - Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty; the Middle East Broadcasting Networks (Alhurra TV and Radio Sawa), and Radio Free Asia. The International Broadcasting Bureau provides transmission, administrative, and other support services; and three grantee organizations. Our staff of dedicated professionals serve as an example of a free and independent media, reaching a worldwide audience of 215 million people with news, information, and relevant discussions.

  • Basic Qualifications: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level, GS-11, which is directly related to this line of work AND must have the ability to read, write and speak in Korean and English languages.

    Specialized Experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Examples of such experience include all aspects of producing live or taped national and world news, informational reports, human interest stories, and/or popular culture stories using state-of-the-art techniques and production technology including digital video recording equipment, digital video editing and graphics software, etc., in a way that appeals to the targeted audience. Knowledge of Korea, its history and its culture.

    Duties include, but are not limited to:

    Conceptualizes and designs complex television packages and programs with innovative and creative approach for multimedia distribution.

    Produces highly creative visuals and be able to generate ideas in a fast paced and deadline oriented breaking news environment.

    Develop, maintain and administer software systems in a real-time broadcast graphics and on-air production pipeline.

    Assists with the design and development of the processes to improve workflows of that will enhance on-air programming initiatives.

    Serves as a solo producer, reporter, writer, and graphic artists for television news and feature stories considered of a competitive quality level for the international broadcast market.

    Uses computer based systems to edit material from feeds, VOA shoots and other available sources into news and feature packages.
