    DUTIES:

    The Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen) is a comprehensive initiative that integrates new and existing technologies, policies and procedures to reduce delays save fuel and lower aircraft exhaust emissions to deliver a better air travel experience. NextGen is supported by executive-level processes for ensuring commitment, accountability, and timely delivery of system improvements.

    The NextGen Outreach & Reporting Division provides strategic messaging around progress and plans for internal and external stakeholders. The Division provides a number of outreach communications products and services, including:

    • Briefings, presentations and talking points for ANG and other FAA executives, including Regional Administrators;
    • News and magazine articles on NextGen performance and programs;
    • Website content;
    • Reports and correspondence to Congress and other oversight organizations; and
    • Graphics and photos.

    If selected for this position, you will serve as a Writer/Editor, presenter, and researcher; and will see projects through from inception to delivery. Prepares a variety of outreach products (articles, videos, web products, reports, talking points, speeches, presentations, and exhibits). These products convey the FAA’s NextGen progress, planning, and collaboration efforts to internal and external stakeholders, including the aviation community, oversight entities (e.g., Government Accountability Office, Office of the Inspector General), Congress, and the general public.

    You will provide publication support by generating ideas for future stories and features that would interest internal and external stakeholders, be published in magazines, conference dailies, professional journals and other forms of high-profile government communication and outreach projects.

    Other duties include:

    • verifying information and interviewing sources;
    • writing articles, news, web copy, speeches, talking points, presentations and other external and internal communications materials;
    • proofreading and editing text;
    • attending relevant events, symposiums, fairs and conferences;
    • creating and maintaining a network of aviation publications contacts; and
    • meeting and liaising with other staff including art directors, designers, photographers, editors.

    In addition, you will form partnerships with key stakeholders, including those with opposing points of view and different interests. For a given project, you will work with contacts from across the agency to develop the project’s strategy, research key data, write, edit or design materials, and see the project through to delivery. The end-product must be clear, concise, and targeted to its audience, and delivered on budget and deadline.
