Job Title: PUBLIC HEALTH NURSE (COMMUNITY HEALTH SERVICES) Closing Date/Time: Thu. 08/24/17 11:59 PM Eastern Time Salary: $60,964.80 - $95,284.80 Annually
Job Type: Full-Time Location: 2100 Washington Blvd., Arlington, VA (Sequoia Plaza) *ART Bus Accessible*, Virginia       This is a professional position in the Community Health Services Bureau of the Public Health Division. The programs in this Bureau provide the full range of services to improve and maintain the overall health of pregnant women, and both women and men of child bearing age desiring family planning methods. Services include testing for HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases as well as medications through the Virginia Aids Drug Assistance program (ADAP).

This Public Health Nurse works with a multidisciplinary team providing services in a clinical setting and through public health outreach in the community. The clinical services include: Maternity, Pregnancy testing, Family Planning, Immunizations, Sexually Transmitted Infections, HIV Testing, and AIDS Drug Assistance. The clinics serve an ethnically and culturally diverse population.

Duties include:
  • Provides the full range of nursing care services and medical follow up in one of the clinical settings;
  • Gives immunizations in Open Immunization Clinics;
  • Maintains records and documentation to meet local, state, and federal requirements;
  • Provides health education to clients, families, and the community;
  • Participates in home visits and outreach opportunities; and
  • Participates in community emergency preparedness events and education.

 Selection Criteria: Minimums:
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing plus one year of full-time work experience as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Licensed to work as a Registered Nurse in the state of Virginia*
*If eligible from another state, the selected candidate will be allowed 60 days to obtain Virginia license.

Substitution: Education may be substituted by additional directly related full-time experience on a year for year basis.

Desirables: Preference maybe given to candidates with additional background and/or experience including:
  • Master's Degree in Nursing, Public Health or a related field;
  • Public Health work experience; and/or
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish

 Special Requirements: Applicant must possess, or obtain by the time of appointment, a valid motor vehicle operator's license from the applicant's place of residence or the applicant must have the ability and willingness to use alternative methods of transportation to perform assigned duties and responsibilities at locations other than the primary worksite. If the applicant possesses or acquires a license, the applicant must provide or authorize Arlington County to obtain a copy of the applicant's official state/district driving record. Any offer of employment may be contingent on a favorable review of the applicant's driving record.

A pre-hire background check will be made on all candidates who are selected for employment. It may include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit history. You may be required to sign a release authorizing the County to obtain your background information.
 Additional Information: Hours: Forty hours per week. Flexible schedule Monday through Friday within core hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 p.m. Some evening hours are required to cover evening clinics.
