Undergraduate Education Student Support Specialist
The George Mason University Office of the Provost seeks a professional Undergraduate Education Student Support Specialist who has a passion for transformative education. Responsibilities: The Student Support Specialist position will report to the Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education, and work closely with the Assistant Director of the Office of Student Scholarship, Creative Activities, and Research (OSCAR) and other members of the Undergraduate Education team. This position will be responsible for a variety of student activities, including: * Tactfully, ethically, and rapidly manage Undergraduate Education Academic Actions (course substitutions, waivers, and other academic appeals); researching cases, consulting with a variety of offices and committees across Mason, presenting potential solutions; and communicating with constituents; * Develop and expand student programs that increase student participation in Mason Impact activities, including include supporting Federal Work Study Assistants, managing the OSCAR Fellows, creating a Mason Impact navigation website for students, meeting with student groups, participating in Admissions and Orientation events, advising individual walk-ins; and * Be creative and resourceful in sharing opportunities for students, and develop new programming.
Required Qualifications: The incumbent will need to be able to work well in a team environment, understand the vision of the Mason Impact, and be able to take independent responsibility for supporting students. The ideal candidate will have: * Undergraduate degree in any discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; * Experience in undergraduate academic advising and/or creating educational programming in higher education; * Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills; * Demonstrated ability to take initiative in analyzing and accomplishing tasks, problem-solving, and ability to prioritize and juggle multiple tasks; * Demonstrated professionalism, flexibility, organization, and curiosity; * Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); * Experience with creating/editing websites and using social media; and * Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive student information, in accordance with Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
Preferred Qualifications: * Masterâ€™s degree in any discipline; * Demonstrated academic advising experience; * Knowledge of Masonâ€™s undergraduate curriculum, advising, policies, and catalog; and * Experience with Ellucian Banner, DegreeWorks, Student Success Collaborative, and other programs.
