MARSOC Marine Raider Training Center Academic Advisor
Academic Advisor/ Subject Matter Expert (MAA/SME) to perform academic advisor functions and responsibilities such as: research of educational opportunities; assessment, counseling, and outreach to students (MARSOC personnel); and other programmatic administrative support as required. The MAA/SME shall be responsible for providing the following subject matter expertise to MARSOC students, faculty, and staff:• Perform academic assessment and advice to students seeking postsecondary and graduate degrees• Perform counseling responsive to educational needs of students and identifying gaps or challenges in academic counseling process and research/recommend alternatives• Develop academic assessment templates to develop course of academic action for students pursuing on and off duty education leading to postsecondary and graduate degrees• Monitor progress of students pursuing on and off duty education leading to postsecondary and graduate degrees• Assess and recommend resources required to support students maintain satisfactory progress towards achievement of successful educational outcomes• Identify gaps or challenges for SOF personnel seeking on and off duty education and research/recommend alternatives or mitigating courses of action• Advise unit leadership on student issues and/or resourcing concerns and anticipated shortfalls Additionally, the MAA/SME shall collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to perform functions which normally include:• Identify colleges and universities with SOF friendly programs and/or articulation agreements;• Seek out institutions to partner with to provide mutually beneficial learning and internship opportunities;• Assist with efforts to gain, maintain, or stabilize DoD and service programs designed to provide off duty education financial resources for SOF personnel;• Assist with efforts to pursue expanded authorities to fund post-secondary education for SOF personnel;• Assess viability of on and off duty funded education as retention and transition tool. Education Master’s Degree (MA/MS) in Education or Counseling field of study. Qualifications 5-8 years of experience required. Experience and Skills: The MRTC Academic Advisor/Subject Matter Expert (MAA/SME) shall possess at a minimum, the following skills and experience:• Minimum of 2 years’ experience serving in senior academic positions.• Must possess strong communications skills.• Possess knowledge of MARSOC and Marine Raider Training Center organization, structure, and mission.• SECRET security clearance required.
