PenFed is hiring a Senior Manager, CIRT Operations in our Chantilly, VA location. The primary purpose of this job is to support PenFed's security posture for SOC strategy, incident monitoring, detection, analysis, and handling; monitoring security systems and analyzing alarms and events for potential threats and intrusions; categorizing alarms and events. This position will lead a group of Cyber Incident Response Techs on multiple shifts with oversight of security tools integrations, reporting and professional team development.

  • Perform Security Incident Management aligned with NIST, DoD or DHS standards.
  • Oversee and develop strategies to identify, detect, and prevent malicious activity.
  • Develop and maintain security procedures, Run Book and Incident Management Plan. Manage consistent daily, weekly and event-based reporting, and manage knowledge base for sharing and transfer of experience.
  • Manage the collection, documentation and research of security events generated by the SOC monitoring platform.
  • Oversee the monitoring, identification and resolution of security events to detect threats through analysis, investigations and prioritization of events based on risk/exposure.
  • Determine gaps in performance metrics, and recommend/execute change management techniques for efficiency/quality improvements.
  • Develop, maintain, and submit SOC compliance reports as required by management and compliance.
  • Perform supervisory/managerial responsibilities.
  • Ensure adequate/skilled staffing; select employees.
  • Develop a professional development plan for each employee and review with each employee every 6 months, including as part of the annual performance review.
  • Establish work performance goals, priorities, and metrics.
  • Prepare, conduct and review performance appraisals.
  • Develop, coach, mentor and counsel staff.
  • Provide input and/or prepare budget requirements for Annual Budgeting Cycle.
  • Ensure efficiency of SOC operations including the use of monitoring tools, dashboards, detection and response capabilities.
  • As a Manager this role is responsible for ensuring business continuity.
Education and Experience

    BS/BA degree or equivalent combination of related work experience desired. 8+ years of experience in the Cyber Security field. BS/BA degree or equivalent combination of related work experience desired. 3+ years prior Managed Security Services / Security Operations Center Management experience highly desired. 3+ years prior security analysis experience is required.
Equivalent combination of education and experience is considered.

Supervisory Responsibility

    This position will supervise employees on multiple shifts.
Licenses and Certifications

    Security+ GCIA GCIH CISSP or similar
Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to an indoor office setting with moderate noise.


Ability to travel to various worksites and be on-call is required.
