Fire Safety Systems Supervisor

The George Mason University, Facilities Management Department is looking for an enthusiastic and energetic person for a Fire Safety Systems Supervisor position. Responsibilities: This person will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision, scheduling, directing, systematic installation, maintenance and repairs of fire alarm and fire damper systems to prevent false alarms, breakdowns, service interruptions, and improve life safety systems and equipment. Also responsible for oversight of the fire sprinkler program. Supervise and direct electronic technicians and fire damper technicians in all aspects of fire safety systems repair, maintenance and installation. Maintains a database of the location of all equipment related to fire safety systems (e.g., fire alarm equipment, zone valves, spare head boxes, zone charts, backflow devices, damper, control panels, detectors, etc.), and other items of importance to fire safety system repair and maintenance. Coordinates with electric shop, Safety Office and University Police on work being performed and makes suggestions to improve the systems. Responds to fire systems emergencies involving all Mason campuses, and other essential emergencies such as snow removal/storm response. Reviews and recommends preferred fire safety equipment, and inspects work in new and renovation construction projects. Reviews plans for upcoming construction/renovation projects, and provides feedback on incorrect or inappropriate systems and equipment.

Required Qualifications: * Extensive training directly related to fire alarm and fire sprinkler repair and installation; * Knowledge of industry-accepted fire safety practices and principles; extensive knowledge of complex electronic equipment and circuitry involved with fire alarm systems; knowledge of fire sprinkler system installations, operations and equipment; knowledge of fire damper design and operations; and ability to use electronic and fire alarm test equipment; and * Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications: * National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) Fire Alarm Certification, NICET 3 or NICET 4 are highly desired.
