Summary

PenFed is hiring a Computer Analyst II in our Chantilly, Virginia location.  In this job you will operate computer console and peripheral equipment to ensure efficient and continuous processing of systems consistent with department and computer operations procedures.  Monitor production systems running to ensure that schedules are met and exceptions are handled according to procedure.  A successful employee can work unsupervised but may require assistance in handling problems or complex requests. Monitors Network, ATMs, and IT Hotline.

 

Essential Functions

    Reports data center problems to supervisor and other appropriate personnel according to policies and procedures and provides information concerning the nature of the problem, steps taken to resolve the problem and availability impact. Communicates system status and tasks at shift turnover according to procedure to ensure that all actions requiring follow-up are conveyed to the next shift.  Other types of communication may also be required including turnover of a written status report and/ or phone mail status messages.  Handles IT Hotline support issues in a professional and courteous manner by properly answering phones, documenting hotline calls in shift report as appropriate.  Notifies immediate supervisor when assistance is required  and handles some questions and requests without assistance from a manager. Performs routine building equipment and security monitoring to ensure that the building is secure and all critical facility systems are working including air conditioning, heating , chillers, security systems and power.  Maintains knowledge of emergency procedures for building and equipment.  Assists IBM and other vendors in problem determination. Maintains Mainframe & Server tape library with minimal supervision which includes all mounting, removing, filing, retrieving and logging of tapes.  Can do basic tape research such as using CA1. Aids vendors and users with tape problems or requests. Completes system checklists under minimal supervision and according to detailed schedule by monitoring consoles to ensure the systems are running in accordance with applicable procedures.  Resolves outstanding requests in a timely manner.  Keeps the immediate supervisor informed of out of date documentation. Understands JCL and automated scheduling system.  With supervision, submits processing as designated per runlogs, automated schedules and procedures.  Monitors processing for successful completion.  Performs basic research on problems and communicates findings to senior operations staff and resolves JCL and scheduling problems under the supervision of senior ops staff.
 

Education and Experience

Equivalent combination of education and experience is considered.

    Associate or B.S. Degree in computer related discipline is preferred  or combination of education and experience that provides the necessary skills and knowledge to satisfactorily perform the essential job functions. Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in Information Technology or experience in similar role. Requires excellent customer service, oral and written communication skills. Thorough knowledge of MVS console commands and utilities required. In depth understanding of operations functions including tape management, print distribution and console monitoring. In depth understanding of monitoring IP network and SNA. Working knowledge of JCL and understanding of automated scheduler functions. Ability to work weekends, holidays and various shifts as needed to meet staffing requirements.
           

Supervisory Responsibility

This position will not supervise other employees however will provide mentorship to less experienced analysts.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to an indoor office setting with moderate noise.

 

Travel

Ability to travel to various worksites and be on-call is required.
