Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Data Communications, Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering or related field. Minimum seven (7) years of experience with at least two (2) years experience in a large scale enterprise voice and data network system, three (3) years of very specific hands-on technical support and at least one (1) year of direct supervision experience.
Or, an equivalent combination of post high school experience with nine (9) years of experience in a large scale enterprise voice and data network system with three (3) years of very specific hands-on technical support and at least one (1) year of direct supervision experience.
Satisfactorily complete the medical examination for this position, if required. The incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of this position either with or without reasonable accommodations.
The selected candidate will serve as the WAN Supervisor, under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent, within the department of IRPG. It is expected that the candidate will supervise employees and contractors working on the installation of the new radio/cell service project. The candidate will implement technical solutions to typical WAN/LAN setup concerns such as wiring closets, switches, routers, voice PBX’s and ancillary equipment. The candidate will be responsible for scheduling workloads, maintaining records, and providing detailed production reports.
This position is responsible for daily shift work maintenance and management of the WMATA voice and data networks and communication systems, in support of WMATA and the Department of Information Technology’s (IT) Mission and Goals. The networks include the Metronet Network, Avaya Phone Network, the legacy BDN and CTS network. The position works closely with other IT Departments, Rail Operations Control Center (ROCC) and System Maintenance (SMNT). The incumbent must have a general understanding of the following communication components: Enterprise-class Cisco network electronics, Avaya phone systems, Time Division Multiplexing (TDM), Internet Protocols and Ethernet. The incumbent must also must be versed in the Maximo trouble ticketing system.
Supervises employees and contractors who assist with WAN/LAN propagation at WMATA.
Serves as primary focal point for operational work being performed on their respective shift.
Addresses all trouble tickets, scheduled maintenance and projects assigned to their shift.
Provides daily updates to the Manager, Network Tech Operations as to the status of work being performed and participate in providing information for monthly reports.
Implements technical solutions to typical WAN/LAN setup concerns such as wiring closets, switches, routers, voice PBX’s and ancillary equipment as per the IT Network Communication System (NCS) Engineering team.
Complies with all applicable policies and procedures of PROC and other offices involved in procurement.
Adheres to all WMATA published standards and procedures.
Maintains records and statistics on availability, performance, inventory, repair history, and other vital statistics for their respective shift.
Remains technically proficient on the latest technologies utilized by the WMATA IT/NCS group.
