Tax Manager - Division of Financial Affairs

The Tax Manager is responsible for assisting the Tax Director with the University's federal, state and local tax compliance. A large part of this compliance is the preparation of the University's annual, semi-annual, quarterly and monthly tax returns and business related renewals.  The preparation of the University's federal tax returns begins July 1 and ends May 15 when the returns are filed.  The Tax Manager has duties ithat nclude but are not limited to:

  • Adheres to a timeline for data collection from University departments campus-wide.
  • Follows-up with University departments for status updates on requested items.
  • Collects, analyzing and inputting data into C-TRAC software.
  • Manages overall process of workflow related to meeting internal and external deadlines.
  • Works with Tax Director and external tax consultant to resolve reporting issues.
  • Responsible for managing the departmental e-mail in-box and assists the Senior Tax Accountant with Form 1099 and Form 1042-S, Form 1042 compliance as needed.
  • Performs the Senior Tax Accountant's daily duties (e.g. Supplier set-up and edits, Tax Navigator Set-up and edits, 1042 Supplier payment review in GMS inbox) as needed when he is out of the office.
  • Responsible for other various compliance efforts including recovery efforts, reconciliations and informational filings as assigned by the Tax Director.

State and Local Tax (SALT) Research and Compliance

  • Timely files all sales tax returns.
  • Reconciles sales tax returns monthly.
  • Coordinates research and applications related to current and proposed approved states per Policy FA 177.
  • Reviews and ensures accurately singed forms are returned timely to CSC for business license and charitable solicitation renewals.
  • Files DC Exempt Property Use Reports (FP-161)
  • Coordinates DC Exempt Property Use applications as needed.
  • Timely files all other SALT returns including business licenses.


  • Bachelor's degree in business or CPA
  • 2 years of public accounting experience
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations, including sales tax
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work congenially and effectively with a wide variety of personnel in a diverse environment
  • Ability to work independently, proactively, and assertively
  • Ability to work within a politically and financially complex organization
  • Ability to translate legal and contractual terms and conditions into accounting practices and procedure
