AboutWeb is seeking a talented Senior Database Administrator to support our Department of State client. The Senior Database Administrator (DBA) provides database support across a collection of cyber security tools and custom applications used to provide cyber monitoring for a major federal agency. The Senior DBA leads the database management efforts across tools, including organization, standards, controls, procedures, and documentation. They provide technical consulting in the definition, design, and creation of the database environment. They ensure that documentation is complete and up-to-date and develop and apply procedures for periodic database backup.

The Senior-level DBA will provide technical expertise, working independently and with other engineers as part of a team focused on providing the integration and full lifecycle support for major cyber tools and capabilities. The primary area of responsibility will be building database infrastructures and supporting cybersecurity technical capabilities.

The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of large scale enterprise IT tools and databases. They will also have experience with cyber security in the domains of security vulnerabilities, networking protocols, virtualization, and information exchange models.

This effort will require a skilled senior DBA to implement standardized and consistent processes, user training, innovative industry approaches and enhancements to current capabilities.
  • Lead coordination between user, technical, application, and government entities to ensure effective database management.
  • Maintain database and ensures its availability to users.
  • Monitor database performance and assists with database security.
  • Query Oracle databases using SQL to review and optimize data in support of tuning activities.
  • Maintain and document shell scripts and batch processes.
  • Familiarity of processes in SQL for Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle databases such as stored procedures/functions/packages, database job, materialized view, view, synonyms, and DB link.
  • Plan, monitor, and implement and test backup and recovery of Oracle 11g/12c and subsequent version databases.
  • Troubleshoot and/or provide technical support in the event of an issue.
  • Work with vendors, system administrators, systems engineers, project/program managers, and government customers to develop, implement, maintain and upgrade database infrastructure.
  • Publish standards, policies, and procedures, and work with development staff to standardize environment and improve efficiency.
  • Other support includes licensing administration, reviewing vendor provided support materials and monitoring system performance and data recoverability in accordance with customer Information Technology policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of MS Office Suite and can provide deliverables to support project deployment on an as-needed basis.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Interim Secret Required to Start (TS Preferred)
  • Minimum three years of experience in database administration and enterprise systems lifecycle management, structured analysis, and/or a relevant technical discipline.
  • Minimum two (2) years of recent experience leading the deployment, maintenance, application of patches and upgrades, and optimization of Oracle database infrastructures.
  • Strong logical/critical thinking abilities, especially analyzing existing database layouts, application architectures, schemas and developing a good understanding of the application model.
  • Minimum 1 year experience with Hat Linux or Oracle Enterprise Linux.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience with query tuning and database system optimization.

Desired Qualifications
  • Desired Certifications: Oracle 11g Database Certified Associate, Security+
  • Experience working in a virtualized environment (e.g. VMWare)
  • Proficiency in process automation using multiple scripting and development tools including, but not limited to: Shell scripting, PowerShell, Perl, Ruby, or Python
  • Experience with Windows Server (2008/2012).
  • Experience utilizing Oracle ASM
  • Experience with Oracle Transparent Data Encryption.
  • Experience with Direct Attached Storage/SAN and RAID.
  • Experience with Dell servers
  • Possesses an understanding of networking fundamentals.
