The George Mason University, College of Health and Human Services, Department of Rehabilitation Science invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track faculty position in Rehabilitation Science (RHBS) in the area of Human Motion, Function, and Performance. The Department of Rehabilitation Sciences Ph.D. program currently has 23 doctoral students including dissertation phase, and the first and only undergraduate degree in Rehabilitation Science in the commonwealth of Virginia. Our Functional Performance Laboratory will be moving to almost 4,000-square-feet in December 2017, and is equipped for studies ranging from motion analysis, biomechanics, and virtual reality to metabolic, endocrine and cardiorespiratory function, especially in chronic illness and aging populations. Because the content of our discipline is drawn from many academic and professional disciplines, we are especially interested in finding a colleague whose work can transcend disciplinary boundaries, and collaborate with academicians and scientists across George Mason University, especially other departments in the College of Health and Human Services, the Volgenau School of Engineering, the College of Education and Human Development, and the College of Science. Our location in the Washington, D.C., area serves to provide collaborative research opportunities with organizations such as the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center, National Rehabilitation Hospital, and numerous local hospitals and clinics.

Responsibilities: Primary teaching responsibilities will be split between graduate courses in the Human Movement and Function tract in our doctoral program and to a comparable set of course offerings at the undergraduate level in our B.S. program with an anticipated 2+2 workload each academic year. Primary advising responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate students and dissertation supervision. All faculty are expected to maintain a high level of scholarly publications in an independent and fundable line of research and to mentor undergraduate and graduate students in the research process. All tenure-track faculty share varied responsibilities including, but not limited to: curriculum development, governance, and university and community service.

Required Qualifications and Experience: Qualified applicants must possess: 1) an earned research doctorate in a field emphasizing the neural control of movement and pathokinesiology, including motor control and motor learning, especially with respect to lower extremity function; 2) a progressive record of scholarship and publication; 3) evidence of college/university teaching on rehabilitation related topics; 4) commitment to securing external funding and developing an independent line of research with an emphasis on intervention studies; 5) effective interpersonal communication skills; and 6) commitment to teamwork.

Preferred Qualifications: Priority will be given to applicants with research experience that includes a postdoctoral appointment. Clinical experience in rehabilitation is a plus.

Rank will be commensurate with experience.
