The George Mason University Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Multicultural Education (ODIME) is seeking an enthusiastic and energetic person for an Associate Director for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Questioning (LGBTQ) Resources position. Responsibilities: The Associate Director for LGBTQ Resources supports the vision and mission of the university; the division of University Life; and the Diversity, Inclusion and Multicultural Education unit. This leader contributes to the ongoing development of the unit with an emphasis on assessment, staff development, supervision as well as program and partnership management. Duties include: * Leverage LGBTQ, gender, and inclusion expertise to the extent possible to help the unit be thoughtful and responsive to the entire community and/or appropriately focus on the needs of particular constituents as circumstances warrant; * Supervise Assistant Directors work performance (establish goals, maintaining work plan, managing priorities and time effectively, role identification, performance improvement plans, etc.); and collaborate with Director to address personnel issues; * Lead the unit in setting, assessing and reporting program goals, unit annual goals and key performance indicators (KPI), as well as generate reports for various stakeholders upon request and approval of director; * Lead staff in coordinating the educational events and programs (including, signature events, Pride Week, LGBTQ Heritage month events and Lavender Graduation) supporting the following program areas: access, retention and academic success for historically marginalized student populations with staff; * Provide and/or oversee cultural competency, Safe Zone Training Modules, and LGBTQ and gender education workshops; * Proactively identify issues, concerns, policies and opportunities for improvement for the unit, division and institution and convey this information to the unit Director and Assistant Vice President (e.g., institutionalizing pronoun usage); * Provide leadership and support as needed regarding emergencies and crises (serve as the lead in the absence of the unit Director); and * Serve as liaison on behalf of unit on committees, task forces, special projects as designated by supervisor, (i.e., the Campus Climate Committee and the Bias Incident Response Team).
Required Qualifications: * Earned masters degree in higher education, or a related field, that will serve to enhance the stature and academic visibility of diversity and multicultural education; * Minimum of two years of experience regularly supervising professional staff; * Demonstrated experience in the areas of diversity or social justice, with expertise in LGBTQ education; * Experience with performance and goal assessment and reporting; * Two years of experience in advising, counseling, program development, social justice or multicultural education; * Proven competence with the use of basic technology to facilitate required work, navigate the university systems, and communicate effectively; * Event management and budget management experience; and * Leadership experience in an educational setting with the ability to serve as an effective advocate for student success.
Preferred Qualifications: * Knowledge of major academic and diversity-related issues facing universities from a theoretical and practical perspective; * Solid administrative skills, including budgeting and public relations; * Ability to motivate, and serve as a strong advocate and coalition builder particularly with a range of diverse communities including students, faculty, and external vendors; and * Knowledge and experience of assessment strategies appropriate for student affairs.
