The Programming Department has created a new shared services team, allowing for exciting cross-discipline collaboration with an emphasis on work with Renee Fleming, Mason Bates, Jason Moran and Q-Tip. This includes Kennedy Center Classical and New Music, Comedy, Jazz, Special Programming, Hip-Hop Culture and Contemporary Music.
The Manager, Programming oversees all management, logistical planning and necessary communication to ensure the success of the Kennedy Center Fortas and Classical New Music, Hip Hop and Contemporary Music, Jazz, Special Programming, and Comedy.
The Manager must be able to make decisions, train develop, motivate and activate diverse team and exercise discretion in order to prioritize assignments and work under significant pressure, as many projects are time sensitive and involve concurrent deadlines. An eagerness to take initiative, communicate and problem solve with a positive attitude is essential. The Manager will encourage balance, equity of resources and success of programs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
30% Manager is responsible for overseeing all logistics necessary for the 250 performances of the Kennedy Center Fortas and Classical New Music, Hip-Hop and Contemporary Music, Jazz, Special Programming and Comedy seasons. Manages staff of five full-time employees, who constitute the producing team. Creates schedules for the department, staffing plans, budget development, Arts Vision calendar analysis, market research and idea generation. Identifies program opportunities to advance department goals and themes. Trains producing team.
35% Oversees producing team administrative activities including reviewing contracts, arrangements for hotels, transportation, meals, visas, fee payments, playbills, tickets, and matters of hospitality when needed. Act as primary liaison between visiting artists and various departments of the Center for a portion of the Center's Programming staff.
20% Works with team to advance each show, establish project schedule and needs. Creates production sheet with arrival timings and schedule of the day. Establishes contact with tour managers, production managers, education coordinators, press representative, advertising and marketing personnel, special events coordinators, and theater managers in order to ensure the flow of information between these departments and visiting artists.
Develops quarterly work and vacation schedules, establishes available resources, reviews promotional materials. Hires and manages rosters of part-time runners and stage managers as necessary. Oversees temporary and overtime staffing budget.
10% Program design and creation. Work with producing team to design and develop thematic ideas, research and evaluate trends and new programming ideas. Review institutional data to direct programming.
5% Pursue booking/tour engagements, and education and outreach opportunities
Experience in commercial music presenting and or management required.
A minimum of 5-7 years’ experience managing and supervising group(s) along with strong leadership skills required.
Bachelor’s degree in Arts Administration or Business Management or equivalent experience.
Minimum Skills and/or Knowledge Required:
Ability to create and maintain clear channels of communication with all members and constituents.
Affinity for budgets, long range planning, and problem solving necessary
