The Senior Instructional Designer will design and develop instructional approaches to produce web-based language learning objects, as well as assessment objects and language tests. Learning objects will incorporate text, video, and/or audio along with comprehension and assessment activities. The designer will work with authentic text, listening and video material to produce learning activities for hundreds of languages at various text levels and for a variety of devices. The activities aim to build the foreign language skills of a large federal government workforce in reading and comprehension, translation, and transcription. The designer will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of content curators, developers, graphic designers and multimedia experts to produce activities drawing from political, cultural, historical and current events topics.

 

Responsibilities include:

 

  • Working with subject matter experts, linguists and web development staff to design and develop instructional approaches and/or strategies to meet specific requirements.
  • Conducting analysis of training requirements and media requirements
  • Developing appropriate learning objectives and test methods and designs instructionally valid learning materials
  • Designing and developing web-based training delivered via a variety of platforms and devices to include mobile and tablets
  • Developing flow diagrams and story boards
  • Designing instructionally sound lessons in a variety of delivery media
  • Interacting with customer and subject matter experts to ensure technical accuracy of instructional content
  • Providing guidance and work leadership to less-experienced personnel
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned
  • Participate in special projects as required
Education BA or BS degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Education, English, or a related field

Masters Degree preferred

Qualifications Successful candidate must meet the following requirements

  • Ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking and writing
  • Ability to collaborate with technical staff and language experts
  • Ability to align identified tasks and skills to learning objectives which are observable and measurable
  • Knowledge of instructional design practices and the study of the principles and techniques used in designing training programs, developing design strategy and models, and applying design methods to the improvement of instructional effectiveness
 

Qualifications

  • 5-8 years of experience with instructional design and eLearning
  • Experience with foreign language learning course development and familiarity with Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) language skill levels
  • Experience with multiple methods of training delivery
  • Ability to work on cross–functional teams
  • Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following tools: Articulate Storyline, Lectora, Adobe Captivate, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop), and related SCORM compliant authoring tools
  • Industry certifications in instructional design or curriculum development
  • US citizenship is required
