The Visual/UI Designer will design and develop user interfaces, graphics, illustrations, animations and other visual elements for use in web-based language learning objects, as well as assessment objects and language tests. The designer will design visual elements, menu controls, graphics and animations in support of eLearning activities incorporating text, video, and/or audio along with comprehension and assessment activities. The activities aim to build the foreign language skills of a large federal government workforce in reading and comprehension, translation, and transcription. The designer will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of content curators, developers, instructional designers and multimedia experts to produce activities drawing from political, cultural, historical and current events topics.

 

Responsibilities include:

 

  • Creating a cohesive style guide and ensures a consistent design language is applied to all products
  • Creatings learner-centered experiences for language learning objects on the desktop, mobile and tablets platforms
  • Creating wireframes, mockups, and graphic visualizations to communicate ideas
  • Working closely with the instructional designer to transform complex information and interactions into simple and elegant user experience
  • Utilizing current graphic design technology and software applications to produce graphics and illustrations for use in web-based learning objects
  • Preparing illustrations from concept drawings, sketches, models, and/or written and verbal instructions
  • Selecting styles and sizes of type, lays out material, and performs related tasks
  • Participating in the design and creation of animations and videos
  • Preparing storyboards for use in video or computer presentations
  • Providing guidance and work leadership to less-experienced designers
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned
  • Participate in special projects as required
Education BA or BS degree in Graphic Design, Commercial Art, Fine Art, or a related discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, professional training, or work experience.

Qualifications
  • 8-10 years of experience with graphic design and user experience design
  • Hands-on experience in software UI/UX design for eLearning preferred
  • Experience working on web development projects
  • Experience designing for multilingual projects and audiences is a plus
  • HTML and CSS coding skills or familiarity a plus
  • Ability to work on cross–functional teams
  • Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following tools: InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop
  • Experience with authoring tools such as Adobe Captivate, Lectora and other SCORM compliant tools
  • Experience with producing 508 compliant material
  • Experience with multimedia production, including audio and video, and producing web animations
  • Experience producing material suitable for desktop and mobile devices
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment under tight deadlines
  • Experience with foreign cultures is a plus
  • US citizenship is required
