Job Description: Contributes to the provision of high-quality, cost effective health care through collaboration with other health team members. Provides assistance to Physicians and Physicians Assistants. Assembles, applies and dismantles all types of traction frames (ie: buck's pelvic, cervical, skeletal). Applies foot cradles, foot boards, bedboards. Makes daily rounds on all units to check proper utilization and maintenance of orthopedic equipment. Initiates patient charges for orthopedic traction hardware, C-Arm use and patient care Pyxis supplies. Assists in the initial evaluation and care of orthopedic patients in the ED. Assists the orthopedic and emergency physicians, PA/NPs with the management of fracture reduction, dislocations, and the application of casts. Applies slings, ace wraps, crutches/canes, immobilizers, plaster, fiberglass and preformed splints and instructs patients in their proper care and use. Demonstrates clinical competency and problem solving in the delivery of patient care by performing indirect and direct patient care in accordance with departmental policies and procedures. Proactively provides patient hygiene, comfort measures and assists patients with activities of daily living. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. Able to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs. Promptly communicates observations and changes of patients' condition to primary nurse and/or shift coordinator. Maintains adequate levels of orthopedic supplies and equipment to meet the needs of the medical center. Interacts with the Operating Room to arrange for specialized orthopedic devices post surgery. Performs other related duties as assigned. Must have the ability to read, perform basic mathematics, understand and follow established procedures. Strong interpersonal skills and teamwork are necessary. Very heavy work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force requently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Education Requirement: High School Diploma or GED Required - Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
