Job Description: Systems Engineer - Junior Position Description Candidate will join an engineering and technical operations team responsible for the implementation, tuning, operations and maintenance of an enterprise-wide federal financial system. The team supports current live systems and implements future systems. The candidate will execute tasks in the areas of system security, operations automation, system design, system engineering techniques, performance testing, trouble shooting and capacity planning. Team success is measured in Production system uptime and user response times, as well as yearly new software release implementations being on-time and meeting technical requirements. Your future duties and responsibilities Initial 6-12 month focus will be application server configuration and administration; issue analysis and resolution; researching and remediating security vulnerabilities; use of automation tools to schedule monitoring and maintenance scripts; coordination with software development and database teams to troubleshoot issues and implement technical solutions. The position will grow after that to include system performance monitoring and tuning of hardware and software resources; identifying, testing and implementing new/enhanced processes and solutions, including performance monitoring and tuning, system availability monitoring and task automation; capacity planning analysis and monitoring; identification and development of system enhancements to improve efficiency or reduce system downtime. On-call status will be required approximately once every 6 weeks, with peaks during implementations. Evenings and weekend may also be required. Required qualifications to be successful in this role Experience or familiarity with application installation, compilation, and configuration on AIX or Windows. Experience or familiarity with SQL and database concepts. Engineering, Science or Technical degree, or applicable skills gained through on the job trainingEagerness to learn technical skills from experienced systems engineers Preferred: Experience or familiarity with Unix (AIX) command line processing and shell scriptingExperience with Apache web serverExperience with WebLogic Application serverExperience with Tuxedo Application serverExperience with webMethods Application serverExperience with monitoring tools such as BMC Patrol, EMC Unisphere or HPE OpenView Previous software development with Java, scripting lanaguages, C++, Ruby, Chef, or PuppetKnowledge of IBM P6,P7 or P8 hardware Build your career with us.
