Refer Save Apply Job ID: LND-24908 Description: The primary responsibility of the Health Information Technician is the accurate entry of scanned documents to the electronic health record and customer service for both internal and external customers for the Health Information Management department through incoming calls, email and visitors to the department. The Health Information Technician is responsible for the maintenance, storage, retrieval and release of the electronic health record in a manner consistent with medical, administrative, ethical, legal, regulatory and HIPAA requirements. Health Information Technicians are also responsible for, but are not limited to, processing endoscopy reports and distribution of transcribed reports. Verifies receipt of hard copy patient records by comparing discharge patient list to hard copy documents received. Updates and verifies accuracy of missing charts list daily. Demonstrated ability to assess work priorities and implement appropriate action. Ensures that any task started during scheduled shift is completed by end of shift or appropriate handoff is made to next shift. Prepares documents for scanning according to department standard. Scans and indexes all document types to the correct patient and encounter. Performs quality assessment on scanned records 60 days post discharge. Provides front desk and phone coverage as appropriate for scheduled shift. Demonstrated ability to track status of transcribed reports using Bayscibe and update status when required and to respond to urgent external request for patient records for continuing care and Medicare appeals. Must be able to retrieve minimal appropriate documentation from multiple sources including Epic, Meditech, Bayscribe and/or Recall. Release of records made within Anne Arundel Health System guidelines and state and federal laws regulating patient privacy. Records all releases within Epic. Able to provide records in electronic format. Seeks assistance and support when appropriate. Demonstrated ability to process electronic record review request utilizing Epic for Reviewer access and recording of release. Working knowledge of Recalls on line ordering system. Demonstrated ability to process/distribute physician copies of transcribed reports including Endoscopy reports. Required Minimum Experience: Six months health information management experience in an electronic health record environment or RHIT/RHIA eligible required. Preferred Qualifications: Medical terminology and knowledge of Microsoft Excel (import, export, graphs, pivot tables), Word and Outlook is preferred. Familiarity with EPIC as well as previous data entry experience is preferred. Previous experience in document management (preparing, scanning, indexing, quality assurance), customer communication, and regulatory requirements related to the legal medical record is preferred. Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
