Fairfax County Health Department is seeking an innovative Marketing Specialist to improve public awareness and participation in various health department programs. Duties include:
  • Identifies market strategies based on program objectives, market characteristics and client demographics and utilizes a variety of mediums to execute strategies.
  • Develops, implements and evaluates marketing plans.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with referral sources and other external partners.
  • Produces an annual marketing report summarizing effectiveness of marketing initiatives.
  • Collaborates with team members on the design and distribution of marketing or promotional materials to maintain consistent branding and communication standards.
Conducts research on current marketing practices, trends, demographics, target markets, stakeholders' needs, and industry best practices.
Note: This a part-time position with a work schedule of twenty (20) hours per week. Employment Standards MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following: graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in field related to the assigned functional area; plus four years of professional work experience with in the functional area such as human resources, budgeting and financial management, contract administration and business management, business administration, public administration, mathematics, statistics or related field.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a check of the Child Protective Services Registry and/or credit checks to the satisfaction of the employer.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Job is generally sedentary in nature, however, job entails walking, standing, sitting, climbing stairs, reaching and bending; uses hands to grasp, handle, or feel; visual acuity is required to read data on a computer monitor; ability to drive and operate county vehicles; ability to operate keyboard driven equipment and computer; ability to communicate well with others, exchanging accurate information verbally and in writing; may be required to lift up or carry up to 25 lbs. Occasionally; may occasionally be required to perform job duties outside of the typical office setting. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Preferred candidates will have a an undergraduate degree program in marketing, communication, business development with at least 2-3 years of prior applicable marketing experience.
  • Previous experience in a health care or not-for-profit environment, a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to be creative and innovative; be familiar with latest trends, technologies and methodologies to include traditional and emerging marketing channels.
  • Ability to apply research methods, and statistical analysis techniques to identify patterns and trends in data. Proficient knowledge and working experience with various software programs to develop, analyze, manipulate, maintain and disseminate documents and reports.
  • Ability to clearly communicate, both oral and written and/or present complex information.
  • Strong writing skills are critical in the development of documents and/or presentations.
  • Must be results driven; organized and detailed-oriented with a focus on producing the highest quality product possible.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and work in a team environment and/or independently.
  • Outstanding customer service skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to plan and implement activities in order to ensure effective and efficient utilization of resources.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and design programs (Adobe InDesign, Photo Shop, etc.), a plus.
