The National Rural Electric Cooperative Association NRECA with offices in Arlington VA and Lincoln NE is the trade association for over consumer owned electric cooperatives serving more than million people NRECA is committed to harnessing the strength of Americaa s electric cooperatives into a single powerful voice NRECA has won the following awards over the past few years Best Places to Work ComputerWorld Magazine Greatest places to Work AARP Best Places to Work The Washingtonian CARE Award Recipient Recognizing organizations that promote a positive work life balance At NRECA we work with people who are leaders in their fields they are down to earth hardworking professionals committed to helping our members serve their communities Our work is interesting and constantly evolving and requiring new skills to meet the evolving needs of a dynamic industry In this collegial inclusive work environment united around the compelling purpose and history of electric cooperatives we thrive And topping it off NRECA cares about each persona s overall well being encouraging health financial security and a sustainable work life balance Summary Sr Principal Environmental Policy Summary Lead strategist and advocate for NRECA environmental policy and regulation related to air and climate issues Directs develops and implements all underlying detailed strategies related to such advocacy For priority environmental issues candidate coordinates and collaborates with key internal and external audiences Purpose and Mission a Engage with NRECA members to develop consensus on priority needs and policy positions on Clean Air Act and Climate matters a Proactive advocacy on key issues to best meet membersa short term and long term needs a Lead regulatory and policy advocacy on Clean Air Act and Climate matters at EPA and related agencies and support said advocacy efforts on related court and media initiatives a Build and maintain relationships in the policy community and industry in order to enhance NRECAa s reputation access and advocacy efforts a Advocate NRECA positions through regular engagement including developing and presenting testimony and developing and submitting comments on the regulatory and judicial activities related to area of responsibility a Participate in and represent NRECA interests in coalitions with other stakeholders a Build in depth knowledge about the membersa business needs impacts from various regulatory actions policy positions and internal politics a Build nationally recognized expertise relating to area of responsibility a Work collaboratively with colleagues in Government Relations Communications Business and Technologies Strategies and others to enhance efforts related to area of responsibility and to support othersa efforts on related issues Requirements and Qualifications a Bachelora s degree in environmental policy engineering or science A Mastera s degree or JD preferred a years of experience with environmental issues environmental regulatory advocacy operational or technical environmental compliance issues and working in or practicing before the EPA and related agencies a Working knowledge of the electric utility industry and electric cooperatives in particular US Government regulations including the Environmental Protection Agency the Clean Air Act requirements and other related federal regulations Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with a diverse membership regulatory agencies employees and or vendors in a clear and precise manner to include developing comment packages to regulatory agencies testimony and briefing papers a Experienced managing regulatory issues with a high degree of cross functional cooperation and the consideration of various laws and regulations including the Environmental Protection Agency the Clean Air Act requirements and other related federal regulations a Ability to be persuasive negotiate and collaborate with individuals at all levels throughout organization and with outside groups as demonstrated by prior work experience LI RS
