Head Start Teacher Assistant-$400 Sign On Bonus
Job Description Summary: Under teacher direction, assists in a Head Start classroom within the scope and goals of COMAR Child Care Regulations, Head Start Performance Standards, Core Knowledge Curriculum and Assessments and the YMCA Child Care Philosophy. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Ensures health, welfare, and safety of children enrolled in the class. Assists teacher with carrying out lesson plans and implementing Core Knowledge curriculum. Aids teacher in completion of Care knowledge assessments on an ongoing basis. Supports teacher in managing student behavior throughout daily routine. Aids teacher in managing classroom structure, ie schedule, routines and transitions. Assists with monthly meetings for parents and recruits their input into planning for classroom activities. Supports Teacher with home visits and parent-teacher conferences. Assists in the end of the day dismissal procedures (helping children on the bus, fastening harnesses). Communicates regularly with Teacher regarding status and needs of the classroom. Assists in maintaining a neat, appealing, clean classroom and center (including bathrooms, floors, etc). Keeps informed on developments in Early Childhood Education. Attends and actively participates in Head Start and Core Knowledge trainings to continue professional growth. Conducts self in a mature, professional manner in compliance with YMCA Baltimore County Head Start policies and procedures through behavior, appearance, and attitude. Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Physical Demands: Physical constraints required include the ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, the ability to see and read newsprint with or without corrective lenses, to speak and be understood under normal circumstances, to lift and carry children and other items weighing up to 50 pounds, and the use of arms, hands, legs, and feet with or without corrective devices to accomplish the job, including evacuation of the building during emergencies. Ability to refer common inquires or complaints to appropriate staff. Mathematical Skills : Can do basic mathematical operations.
