Job Description This position will design databases for genomic data (using SQL or other appropriate technologies), create user interface (UI) and data visualization tools for these databases and maintain these databases. Additionally, this position will create custom process workflows in the Labmatrix server to catalog and track specimens through laboratory workflows in the Molecular Characterization Laboratory. These customizations may include creating multiple custom Excel templates to capture the specimen accession, experimental data and associated metadata for upload to a centrally located Labmatrix server. To accomplish these tasks, the person need to interact with laboratory staff and Labmatrix database administration staff. The person in this position must be proficient in Microsoft Office (specifically Excel). Some familiarity with SQL syntax needed to setup pre-defined queries in the Labmatrix server. Duties: Develop, maintain and extend a web-application used by cancer researchers Develop and maintain program code in adherence to established coding standards Develop interface design and architecture of the website using a variety of graphics and web authoring tools Monitor day-to-day performance of web applications, perform program tuning. Education: Possession of a Bachelor's degree in computer science/biomedical science/math related field from an accredited college or university or four (4) years related experience in lieu of degree. Foreign educated candidates who have completed part or all of their education outside of the United States must have their foreign education evaluated by a company-approved accrediting organization to assure that it has met the equivalency of the qualifications of degree work in the United States. (Duration 6 months) Experience: In addition to educational requirements, a minimum of three (3) years related experience. Basic Qualifications : Experience in designing, developing and delivering Web2.0 systems using: HTML5, CSS, PHP, JavaScript, SQL, MVC, OOP Ability to develop software that is modular and easy to maintain, extend, fix and port Knowledge of software development "best practices" eg, gathering and managing requirements; detailed and regular documentation; software versioning; software testing Ability to identify and resolve cross browser and cross platform compatibility/connectivity issues Understanding of object-oriented programming, the model/view/controller (MVC) pattern of programming, and application programming in a shared-access, subversion/GIT concurrent-use environment Experience developing web-based application front ends utilizing valid HTML, CSS, and JavaScript Advanced Qualifications : Experience in utilizing existing JS libraries eg D3JS and modifying them if needed Experience in creating interactive plots.
