Job Description Position Summary Appraises material damage claims and total losses as received by assignment. Negotiates settlement of claims and disposes of salvage within authority. This position works from home and the successful candidate will ideally live in and service theCumberland, York and/or Adams counties. Candidates with above minimum qualfications may be considered for a Material Damage Adjuster II position. Number of years and scope of experience will determine level. A company car is provided. Duties and Responsibilities Handles all material damage claims as assigned. Makes arrangements with repair shops, Policyholders or claimants to inspect vehicles. Photographs damaged areas and writes estimates on all claims when necessary. Determines rental needs and controls costs according to company guidelines. Negotiates with repair shops on cost of repairs. Establishes value and settles total losses. Handles disposal of salvage within authority. Distinguishes cause of damage for appropriate policy coverage. Issues settlement checks and keeps appropriate records. Establishes rapport with Agents and claims adjusters. Contacts Policyholders and claimants regarding complaints stemming from original adjustment. Attends appropriate training sessions. At the request of Underwriting, evaluates antique and classic cars for coverage value. Competencies Ability To Learn And Follow Procedures Ability to Manage Complexity Arithmetic Computation Decision Making Developing And Maintaining Relationships Information Management Skills Interpersonal Communication Job-Specific Knowledge Numerical Reasoning Oral Communication Planning And Organizing Problem Analysis Service Orientation Time Management Qualifications High school diploma, or GED, required. Two years of experience in body shop or insurance claims adjusting, including estimate writing OR completion of ERIEs Smart Start Program, preferred. Completion of General Insurance program preferred. Incumbent must live in territory assigned unless a change is approved by the company. Position requires the incumbent to serve on the catastrophe duty, which may include travel on short notice to other locations for periods in excess of two consecutive weeks. Willingness to obtain and maintain any required licenses. Valid drivers license and good driving record required. All Erie Employees with a telecommuting arrangement in which they consistently work remotely during part, or all, of their work schedule must have in their regular remote work location, access to business class internet service providing 3 megabytes (3 MBs) or more of bandwidth. For this purpose, business class internet means internet service with a static IP address, dedicated connections and guarantees or service level agreements (SLAs) addressing relevant performance characteristics.
