Job Description Lead Compounding Pharmacy Technician POSITION SUMMARY COMPOUNDING EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION. Experienced compounding pharmacy technician needed for a compounding/specialty pharmacy experiencing a fast paced growth. Applicant will have the opportunity to learn and develop the various aspects of professional pharmacy compounding and with strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures. This position will be under the direct supervision of the pharmacist with an emphasis on the actual compounding of medications pursuant to a prescription. Direct communication with the prescriber and the patient is limited but may be required. This position has the potential to become a career pathway for the pharmacy technician who is competent, meticulous, efficient, organized, able to multi-task, communicate well, follow through, and who can thrive in a highly challenging and demanding environment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Compound and package prescribed medications, drugs, and other pharmaceuticals for patient care Compounding of both sterile and non sterile medications in accordance to USP 795 and 797 guidelines Manage and organize all pharmacy tasks for the day Delegate compounding tasks to subordinates as needed throughout the day and throughout the week Review calculations to assure accuracy before compounding Assess ingredients to determine identity, purity, and strength Appropriately document compounding activities and receive verification from a compounding pharmacist before completing compounding activities Accurately weigh, measure, and mix ingredients during the compounding process Follow quality assurance/control procedures Ensure the proper disposal of hazardous wastes and drugs Maintain and sanitize the compounding environment, equipment, and tools; . Complete all necessary documentation associated with these activities Report out-of-specification observations, deviations, and modifications to the compounding pharmacist and Quality Control/Compliance Officer Pass applicable validations and evaluations Label and package final products Stock ingredients in accordance with storage requirements and remove expired products from shelves or other storage areas Stock vials and other compounding supplies Order ingredients and supplies Assist with answering telephones directed to the compounding pharmacy KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Ability to work well under pressure in a fast paced working environment Ability to multi-mask and meet deadlines is essential Ability to prioritize with little supervision Knowledge and experience in a compounding/specialty pharmacy is preferred Strong data entry skills Strong communication skills Ability to work individually or in a team environment Patient and Understanding when dealing with patients and physicians is a must Command of English and Spanish languages preferred EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE High School diploma or equivalent Previous experience dealing with patient/customer service 3-5 Years as a compounding pharmacy technician is required for this position Managerial experience is preferred CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS Certified and licensed pharmacy technician preferred but not required TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS The physical demands and work environment are characteristic of those found in a typical pharmacy.
