Job Description Position Summary: Manages a Head Start classroom within the scope and goals of COMAR Child Care Regulations, Head Start Performance Standards, Creative Curriculum and Teacher Strategies GOLD Assessments, and the YMCA Child Care Philosophy. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Ensures health, welfare, and safety of children enrolled in the class. Writes and implements daily lesson plans according to Creative Curriculum and Head Start practices. Implements Creative Curriculum and administers Teacher Strategies GOLD Assessments. Plans and manages classroom structure, ie schedule, routines, transitions. Maintains classroom education folders and portfolio-assessment binders for children in compliance with Head Start, COMAR regulations and the Creative curriculum. Assures completion of daily and monthly attendance records and forwards copies to the Center Service Coordinator. Prepares for and conducts home visits and parent-teacher conferences. Participates in monthly meetings for parents and recruits their input into planning for classroom activities. Actively participates in the IEP/referral process and attends IEP meetings. Ensures that parents receive home learning activities on a weekly basis. Supervises classroom staff, including advising on classroom issues, and provides documentation to CSC on individual staff performance. Informs and includes all classroom staff in daily lesson plans and activities. Assures that all written communication from Education Service Area is shared with classroom in a timely manner (memo regarding assessments, trainings, meetings, etc.) Assures that all written communication to classroom staff or parents, which is generated by the teacher, is pre-approved by the Zone Manager. Monitors classroom supplies and submits orders to the Education Departments when needed. Communicates regularly with Head Start Teacher regarding status and needs of the classroom. Maintains a neat, appealing, clean classroom and center (including bathrooms, floors, etc). Keeps informed on developments in Early Education. Attends and actively participates in Head Start trainings to continue professional growth. Models professional behavior and adherence to YMCA Baltimore County Head Start policies and procedures through behavior, appearance, and attitude. Supervisory Responsibilities: Serves as supervisor to the Teacher Assistants, Resource Aides, and classroom volunteers. Makes recommendations in specific classroom situations. Carries out advisory responsibilities in accordance with organization's policies and applicable laws. Qualifications: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Must obtain a valid criminal background check. Must obtain a pre-employment physical including a TB test. Must have access to reliable transportation. Physical Demands : Physical constraints required include the ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, the ability to see and read newsprint with or without corrective lenses, to speak and be understood under normal circumstances, to lift and carry children and other items weighing up to 50 pounds, and the use of arms, hands, legs, and feet with or without corrective devices to accomplish the job, including evacuation of the building during emergencies. Work Environment: The work environment is such that can be accommodated by individuals meeting the requirements described above. The noise level is usually moderate and the activity level ranges from moderate to fast pace. Required Experience Education and/or Experience: BA/BS in Early Childhood Education or field from an accredited college or university. 90 Training Hours Two years supervised early childhood experience.
