Staff Accountant, Financial Reporting

This role assists in the preparation of the consolidated financial statements in accordance with US GAAP and the rules and regulations of the Securities and Exchange Commission. The staff accountant assists in the preparation of SEC (10-K, 10-Q, 11-K, S filings) and other public filings, including the coordination and preparation of required disclosure information for 140+ business units world-wide. This position helps identify and communicate to key stakeholders, the impacts of new or proposed accounting interpretations, pronouncements or other technical literature. Key Responsibilities: Consolidations Prepare monthly intercompany elimination entriesFacilitate a successful consolidation of +140 international businessesPrepare monthly consolidated financial statements and variance analysisPrepare monthly calculation of Non-GAAP measures Financial reporting Assist in preparation of XBRL-formatted documents for required SEC filingsAssist in the preparation of supporting packages for footnote disclosures in the Quarterly and Annual Report to ShareholdersAssist in providing a timely and accurate external filing on a consistent basisAssist in the development and implementation of quality control reviews Technical research Stay current on new GAAP or newly relevant GAAP.Ensure timely documentation of key issues and relevance to AES for review by management Other Participate in special projects and process improvement initiatives Qualifications: Excellent documentation skills - attention to detail, rigorous work paper standardsAble to research and apply technical accounting concepts (thorough knowledge of GAAP)Exposure to SAP and consolidation systems highly desirable, Microsoft Office (Word and Excel in particular) productsExcellent written and oral communication skillsSelf motivated and strong organizational skills Education BS in AccountingCPA strongly preferred Experience 3+ years experience with public/private mixCurrent relevant experience with consolidations in a multinational environmentLarge public accounting company experienceExposure to complex technical accounting issues - impairments, defined benefit plans, discontinued operations, acquisition and divestiture accounting Work Environment Decentralized subsidiary structureFast paced and flexibleCollaborative approachCreative solutionsIntra and inter-team coordination The AES Corporation is a Fortune 200 global power company.
