Position Description: XLA is looking to fill a Legal Specialist position to support our government client in the Assets and Forfeiture division in Washington DC. This person will be responsible for working alongside a team of Legal Specialist to review, analyze and draft documentation related to the seizure and forfeiture of assets involved in fraudulent and/or financial crimes. This position will require a strong sense of urgency, a willingness to meet tight deadlines, and the appreciation for the utmost of confidentiality. Specific duties include: Preparing correspondence and/or legal documentation with a 97% error free rateReviewing information for legal sufficiency, timeliness, accuracy, and completenessReconciling and resolving matters with discrepancies, outstanding issues, or lack of informationRecording pertinent information for case files and make note of deficienciesContacting appropriate field offices to obtain most recent status of seizuresGenerating weekly status reports and reconciling seizure tickler reportsAlso included are general filing, copying, and administrative duties. Requirements: Bachelor's Degree desired with a Paralegal Certificate and 3 years of Paralegal experienceAbility to obtain a federal agency Public Trust Clearance Minimum one (1) year of experience in the following: Researching and maintaining knowledge and understanding of Federal forfeiture statues and the agency administrative forfeiture authority.Assisting with the review of legal documents for completeness and accuracy of information.Assisting with editing Probable Cause Statements. Assisting with reviewing petition packages and preparing recommendations in accordance with Federal asset forfeiture regulations. The Subcontractor shall assist with extracting data from seizure files and Fastrak. The Subcontractor shall perform legal research utilizing databases such as LexisNexis.
