Reports To: Director, Business Office Department: Finance - Operations Office Location: Charles Town, WV FLSA Status: Exempt Date Posted: April 26, 2017 Date Closing: Open Until Filled Synopsis of Role: The Senior Manager, Business Office provides managerial support to the various accounts receivable teams and processes through leadership, creative problem solving, and solution development for organizational projects. The processes include receipt, processing, and refunding of various types of funding. Essential Functions: * Leads, plans, and provides support to the business office managers and staff. * Ensures the business office management and staff follow all policies and procedures. * Ensures department managers and staff are meeting daily, monthly, and weekly goals. * Works with the analyst, business office on monthly close processes. * Works closely with the department managers on training, mentoring and professional development programs to ensure employee engagement and success. * Works with management to develop and maintain department training and reference materials. * Manages and maintains updates to all standard operating procedures and Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) narratives. * Ensures business office compliance to Department of Education (DoE) regulation guidelines for the handling of various regulated funds. * Works with internal and external auditors as needed. * Ensures all work meets both financial and SOX compliance. * Provides feedback to director of business office on staffing needs and department structure. * Works closely with manager, financial systems support to provide User Acceptance Testing (UAT) resources and assistance as needed. * Provides input in development of new workflow and system enhancements as well as ensuring successful implementation. * Stays abreast of regulatory changes within finance and financial aid as it impacts the business office. * Interacts with American Public University System (APUS) staff and various teams, at all levels as required, to meet strategic objectives. * Provides input specific to the business office for organizational projects. * Performs other duties as assigned. Work Environment and Physical Demands: *Standard office environment in Charles Town, WV. Requirements Required Skills: * Ability to lead and mentor a management team. * Ability to interact with students and APUS staff in a positive and professional manner. * Knowledge of general accounting rules and financial aid regulations. * Ability to understand and implement policies and procedures. * Ability to look at business office needs comprehensively while taking into account APUS as a whole. * Ability to solve problems in an ever changing environment. * Advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite; ability to use Microsoft Excel for analysis of data. * Excellent attention to detail. * Ability to work as a team player with a positive attitude. Required Experience: * Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution required preferably in Business or Accounting. Master's degree preferred. * Minimum of five years of management experience in an accounting or finance department. * A solid understanding of accounting fundamentals. * Excellent oral and written communication skills. * Experience with Windows based applications (specifically Excel).
