Position Description: The Asset and Facilities Technician shall provide technical and operational oversight to the brick and mortar data center and modular data center (MDC) facility-specific areas such as power, cooling (HVAC) communications, cabling, and any other environmentals such as fire systems. The qualified candidate will also assist and work closely with the Government IT specialist regarding asset management in the BIMC facility which includes the receipt, tagging, shipping, decommissioning and inventory of IT equipment. The Asset and Facilities Technician will be in constant communication with the Government IT specialist and site managers to insure that all data center facilities are properly monitored and maintained. The qualified candidate will monitor all outside vendor and internal maintenances on facilities infrastructure equipment, assist the Level 2 technicians with installation and decommissioning of IT devices, maintain cable inventory and storage room cleanliness. The AFM Team provides its services during normal business hours; 7am to 4pm Monday through Friday, however; may be called in for emergencies or special projects requiring minimal impact to customer availability. Responsibilities: Responsible for monitoring the data center environment. (Cabling, Electrical, Cooling, and life safety.) Provide customer with support in monitoring and maintaining the MDC and brick and mortar data centers including escorting and overseeing vendors. Perform weekly daily data center walkthroughs to monitor and log temperature and humidity levels and perform safety checks. Maintain a walkthrough log in the database per the performance based metric requirements Contractor (trade) oversight (ie Construction, corrective/preventive maintenance) as necessary. Cable fabrication and support of installation within Data Center as requested. Update site drawings (including floor plans) if needed. Recommend any updates to the current Processes and Standard Operating Procedures Receive and assign asset tags to incoming equipment and enter all pertinent information into database. Schedule, prepare and track shipments of outgoing equipment and fill out the required paperwork. Update and maintain asset inventory records within the government provided database as per the performance based metrics. Support annual and mid-year inventory audits and provide a status as per the performance based metric. Creating Internal Service request for all related Asset and Facilities Management (AFM) tasks. Position Requirements/Qualifications: Education and Certifications Required: High School diploma or equivalent. Required: Strong background in data center facilities and operations. Required: Proficient with asset management and maintaining IT inventory. Required: Strong communications skills and experience in working in active environments. Required: Candidate must be a hard worker, exude patience, and has a willingness to learn. Required: Candidate must be able to lift at least 50lbs. Required: Strong reporting skills and proficient at using Microsoft Office suites. Preferred: BICSI certification Preferred: ITIL Version 3 and Data Center Associate (DCCA) certifications. Preferred: Bachelor's Degree from 4 year college or university. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered for meeting the minimum requirements. Knowledge and Experience Required: 4+ years of experience in data center facilities and operations. Including familiarity with the data center environment. Required: 2-3 years of experience maintaining and managing asset inventories for IT equipment. Required: 2-3 years of experience managing and escorting vendors for facilities maintenances Preferred: 2-3 years of IT Procurement experience Preferred: 2-3 years of IT installation experience
