General Dynamics IT has an opening for an Oracle Exadata SME with strong communication and technical skills that will support the Department of Commerce 2020 Decennial Census Systems of Systems hybrid cloud infrastructure and its applications. The Oracle Exadata SME will work closely with development support, tech support, operations, etc. in a 24x7 environment. Responsibilities include Oracle product configurations, installations, integrations, and help in architecture designs. The successful candidate will also work with development team on daily basis responding to adhoc requests, deploying changes and optimizing processes using various tools, utilities, scripts, etc. Successful candidates must be able to demonstrate a detailed knowledge of Oracle database definition, structure, documentation, long range requirements, operational guidelines and protection strategies. Candidates must also demonstrate ability to install and configure Oracle RAC on UNIX/Linux platforms and diagnose and resolve performance issues.

 

Specific roles & responsibilities for the position include but not limited to the following:

    Provide input into the Oracle elements of the database strategy, provide guidance on best practices and standards, and participate in Proof of ConceptsMentor other Oracle DBAs and provide in-depth troubleshooting and analysis skills for the teamEnsure the provisioning of Oracle DBA cover, workload management and analysis of production changesProvide hands-on technical support for Oracle databasesUtilize a process oriented approach to database management (incl. change management, incident and problem management)Install, configure, manage and maintain multiple Oracle databases on Linux, System z, and ExadataProvide compute, storage, and network support for Exadata and ZFS hardware platformsMonitor and maintain critical hardware information for the database machinePerform operational procedures and support (including data modelling, replication, administration, maintenance, capacity planning, space management and recovery)Perform replication, RAC configuration, OEM configuration, performance tuning and optimization (query optimization, index tuning, caching and buffer tuning)Perform appropriate back up, restoration, patching and upgrades of databases (including DR)Perform database tuning and implement performance enhancementsInstall, configure, upgrade, and manage Oracle databasesManage system issues, performance tuning, backup/recovery, and replicationConfigure disk storageWork with other teams to efficiently configure and deploy infrastructure components which support the Oracle database, this includes networking to provide data comm services and storage team to configure storage resourcesRun diagnostic tools to identify database performance bottlenecks, and take appropriate corrective actions to improve database performanceMonitor Oracle databasesTroubleshoot Oracle performance and non-performance related issues and support testing.Manage backup/recovery for Oracle instancesDevelop scripts to automate repetitive tasksRespond to support requestsProvide support for all stages of database implementation from development through QA and productionControl access privileges and permissions with a close attention to securityProvide input on database documentation (standards, procedures, scripts)Monitor and improve database performance and capacity utilization to provide high database availability and redundancy

    Oracle Exadata Database Machine architectureManaging multiple Oracle Exadata Database MachinesExadata quarterly patch management, to include rolling patchesDatabase administration with Oracle RAC and Multitenant databases inclusive of backup and recovery strategies for RAC environmentsPerformance tuningBackup and recovery strategy, to include RMANData GuardOracle Enterprise Manager (10g and up), Oracle Grid Control and Oracle Cloud ControlOLTP (Online Transaction Processing) and DSS (Decision Support Systems), Data WarehousingMigration of Linux on System z databases to Oracle RAC on ExadataMigration and consolidation of Oracle Databases on to ExadataZFS Storage ManagementScripting languages, such as, PL/SQL, JAVA and PythonExtensive database administration experience with Oracle 11g and 12c databasesOracle Transparent Data Encryption (TDE)Upgrading Oracle 11g to 12C Pluggable Databases on ExadataData warehousing, Big Data and other leading data technologiesLatest technology stack and the cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure

Education  

    Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical discipline12 years of technical experience providing internal/external consulting services
