We are seeking a Wet Chemist / Analyst for a fast paced, high volume environmental testing laboratory located in Baltimore, MD. Our Analysts prepare and perform routine analysis of drinking water, waste water and soil samples. Our ideal candidate will be able to remain focused in a fast paced work environment, be driven to produce high quality work results, and have some experience working in an environmental laboratory setting, in either academia or a commercial laboratory environment. POSITION OVERVIEW: Under the supervision of the Department Supervisor, Analysts, working in an accredited commercial laboratory, conduct chemical analyses to determine composition, reactions, and chemical and/or physical properties of a variety of sample types. MAJOR/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Following established SOP's and adhering to state, federal and other accrediting body requirements, Analysts collect information about the composition of substances/samples to support the analytical testing needs of our clients for such purposes as quantitative analysis, product development, and improvement of analytical methodologies. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES: Prepare necessary standards, solutions, reagents, media, etc., required for sample analyses. Perform equipment and instrumentation set up. Operate basic and specialized laboratory instrumentation to perform sample analysis. Accurately record observations and data; Maintain accurate, up to date laboratory logs and equipment records. Perform necessary laboratory administrative functions such as filing paperwork, photocopying, reviewing of data, and entering data into computerized LIMS. Comply with and promote Personnel, Safety, and Quality Program. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Job Requirements: Basic understanding of laboratory instrumentation Basic understanding of the safe use and handling of laboratory acids and solvents. Ability to work with small vials, test tubes and delicate laboratory equipment. Ability to apply algebraic concepts to perform basic laboratory calculations and accurately measure substances, liquids and/or solutions. Ability to read and apply established protocols and SOP's to daily objectives. Education and Experience: Degree in environmental science, chemistry or a related field of study would be preferred.
