About the Agency

This position is located in the Directorate of Business Operations and Exhibits of the National Air and Space Museum. The employee will serve as a Senior Advisor to the Director, Deputy Director and Associate Director on museum related policies, procedures, programs, and activities.

  • Experience: You qualify for this position if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal Service or comparable pay band system. For this position specialized experience is defined as analyzing complex and diverse programs, providing advice on implementation strategies, action planning; and providing information on performance and cost metrics for all facets of operations.

    Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

    Public Trust - Background Investigation


    • Serves as the primary liaison with Smithsonian Enterprises (SE) to identify and implement new revenue generating activities.
    • Performs as the primary coordinator of the implementation of the museum’s strategic plan, tactical plans, and development, measurement and tracking of key performance indicators and performance metrics.
    • Conceives and works on new initiatives and projects for the Associate Director that may cross-cut the NASM organization designed to strengthen, standardize, reengineer, facilitate, integrate or enhance the museum’s various programs.
    • Provides support to the Public Program committee by reviewing proposals and assisting in the development of appropriate goals, measures and outcomes.
