HIGH VOLTAGE ELECTRICIAN
The selectee for this position will serve as a HIGH VOLTAGE ELECTRICIAN in the Public Works Department of NAVAL FAC ENGINEERING CMD WASH.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to perform the duties of a HIGH VOLTAGE ELECTRICIAN under normal supervision: Performing routine installation, maintenance, and repairs on electric power control equipment, distribution lines, or electric-generating equipment.

Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
Must be able to obtain an interim and/or final (e.g., confidential/secret/top secret, etc.) security clearance prior to entrance on duty AND must be able to maintain the required level of clearance while employed in the subject position. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
Selectee will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment and yearly physical examination.
Selectee must obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
Call back and emergency overtime are regular requirements of this position.
May be called in to restore power when circuit is inadvertently cut off.
Physical Demands: Must be able to make repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and other hard-to-reach places. This requires standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Must be able to frequently lift and carry tools, equipment, and parts that weigh up to 20 pounds and, less often, up to 40 pounds. Occasionally, lift or move with assistance moderately heavy objects weighing more than 40 pounds. Other work requires climbing water tanks, stacks, and coal conveyors to heights of 190 feet.
Working Conditions: The selectee will be exposed to the usual dangers existing to high voltage. Exposure to high heat, cold, dust, and dark areas. Work is performed indoors and outdoors, employee will be exposed to extreme temperatures, smoke, dirt, noise, unpleasant odors, toxic fumes, soot, coal dust, fly ash, water, fuel, oil, chemicals and all types of weather conditions. Work may result in bruises, burns from steam, heat, chemicals, or machinery.
The successful selectee will perform the following duties:
- Use and maintain hand or power tools (e.g., cable pullers, hydraulic benders, pipe threading machines) to complete high voltage electrician tasks.
- Read and interpret blueprints, job sketches, and equipment diagrams to perform work on high voltage electrical systems.
- Install, modify, and replace generation and distribution equipment in substations, power-generating facilities, transformer vaults, or distribution centers.
- Troubleshoot generating or distribution equipment (e.g., circuit breakers, relays, battery banks and chargers, transformers, diesel generators, oil-gas-air switches, capacitors, cables, meters, controls, control circuits) to determine operating condition.
