The position is located in the Office of Exhibits at the National Museum of Natural History (NMNH). The purpose of this position is to support the development, writing, and editing of exhibition scripts for presentation at the National Museum of Natural History.

Experience: You qualify for this position if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 level in the Federal Service or comparable pay band system. For this position specialized experience is defined as researching, writing, and editing science and/or natural history museum exhibition scripts; and ensuring projects conform to content development, educational standards, and accurate scientific content.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience. Be sure to note the number of paid or unpaid hours worked each week.
Or Education: Two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent degree related to the position may be substituted to meet the experience requirements.

Public Trust - Background Investigation
- Writes and edits a wide range of materials for exhibitions.
- Edits submitted scripts for style, grammar, completeness, and thoroughness, ensuring that the final script supports the objects on display and the accompanying visual elements.
- Ensures that the vocabulary and language used is appropriate for the stated audience level and that the necessary background information is provided so the visitor will be able to understand new or difficult ideas and concepts.
- Participates in exhibition planning as a member of the exhibition team.
