SUPERVISORY NURSE (CLINICAL)

About the Position: This position is located at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, within the Director for Nursing, Department of Critical Care Nursing, Telemetry, located in Bethesda, MD. Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts short-term priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work. Assigns work to subordinates, based on priorities and the capabilities of employees. Evaluates work performance of subordinates, and develops performance standards. Provides advice, counsel or instruction to employees on both work and administrative matters. Hears and resolves complaints from employees, referring group grievances and more serious unresolved complaints to a higher level supervisor or manager. Effects minor disciplinary measures, such as warnings and reprimands. Identifies and arranges developmental and training needs of employees. Finds ways to improve production or increase the quality of the work directed. Must have the ability to lift 50 lbs.

Basic Requirement for Supervisory Nurse (Clinical):
Education: Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed.
Registration: An active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. An applicant who has graduated from an approved nursing educational program within the past 12 months may be appointed pending State registration as a professional nurse.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Experience required: To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: independently provide full range nursing care in a variety of medical services such as: independently providing full range of nursing care in medical-surgical cardiac telemetry; leading others in projects or assignments; nursing process expertise.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

You will serve as the Assistant Service Chief, providing staffing, resources, and oversight of patient care provided by multidisciplinary nursing staff. You will implement, revise and develop policies, procedures and other directives. You will plan the work of individuals, making shift arrangements and assigning work. You will collaborate with physicians and other professional healthcare provides to develop, assess and coordinate patient care plans incorporating the newest, most efficient, cost-effective approach possible. You will continually evaluate all clinical procedures occurring within the unit and ensure all staff members are practicing within their scope. You will evaluate work performance of subordinates and give advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on both work and administrative matters.
