Job Title: WAREHOUSE TECHNICIAN Closing Date/Time: Thu. 07/20/17 11:59 PM Eastern Time Salary: $35,110.40 - $53,643.20 Annually
Job Type: Full-Time Location: Water Pollution Control Bureau - 3402 S. Glebe Road, Arlington, Virginia       Arlington County's Department of Environmental Services is seeking an experienced Warehouse Technician to perform technical and administrative duties to assist in the operation and maintenance of a warehouse and storage management system in the Water Pollution Control Bureau. This position is responsible for maintaining manual and automated inventory systems in the warehouse as materials are ordered, received, and dispensed, ensures the safe and efficient storage of materials, and conducts inventory cycle count of warehouse items.

Specific duties include:
  • Researching and responding to inquiries related to warehouse inventory levels;
  • Producing and analyzing usage reports to identify items that need ordering, discarding, or auctioning;
  • Downloading warehouse inventory data reports to assist in monitoring the bureau's budget;
  • Developing written materials for inclusion in the inventory system using Microsoft Word and Excel;
  • Researching availability of materials, parts, and equipment by using supply manuals, catalogs, the Internet, and vendor contracts;
  • Tracking purchasing requests and ensuring discrepancies on orders are addressed;
  • Receiving materials and equipment delivered to the warehouse, placing item in proper storage, and notifying customer of arrival of material; and
  • Assisting with the loading and unloading of warehouse supplies using a forklift.

 Selection Criteria: Minimum: High school diploma or GED PLUS two years of responsible technical or administrative experience related to warehouse operations including buying, receiving, storing, and issuing supplies, materials, parts, and equipment, and maintaining associated records systems.

Substitution: College coursework from an accredited college or university can be substituted for the experience requirement on the following basis:
  • 2 years of college coursework for 6 months of experience
  • 4 years of college coursework for 1 year of experience
Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for up to 2 years of high school on a year-for-year basis.

Desirable: Preference may be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:
  • Purchasing or warehouse management experience in an industrial environment, such as a water/sewer treatment facility;
  • Performing duties related to an industrial materials specialist or buyer, including contacting vendors for availability of materials, evaluating potential material options, and negotiating prices;
  • Operating a forklift in a warehouse environment;
  • Using digital inventory supply systems (i.e., CMMS or MP2); and/or
  • Using automated financial systems.

 Special Requirements: Applicant must possess, or obtain by time of appointment, a valid motor vehicle operator's license from the applicant's place of residence. The applicant must authorize Arlington County to obtain, or the applicant must provide, a copy of the applicant's official state/district driving record. Any offer of employment may be contingent upon a favorable review of the applicant's driving record.

This position requires operating a forklift to move heavy parts. Applicant must possess or be willing to obtain a forklift operator certification.
